Could ask for a better leader than DeSantis! It becomes clearer and clearer with each passing day that he is such a more capable leader than Trump could ever think of being. This will manifest itself to the throughout the country over the next 24 months.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) warned those who are thinking about looting in the wake of Hurricane Ian that they are putting their lives at risk as the state supports citizens using the Second Amendment.
DeSantis, who made the remarks while speaking in the devastated community of Matlacha near Fort Myers, said that he has seen citizens indicating that they will shoot looters.
“They boarded up all the businesses, and there are people that wrote on their plywood, ‘You loot, we shoot,’” DeSantis said. “At the end of the day, we are not going to allow lawlessness to take advantage of this situation. We are a law-and-order state, and this is a law-and-order community, so do not think that you’re going to go take advantage of people who’ve suffered misfortune.”
It's good that the people of Florida have the support of their Governor during this natural disaster and that he recognizes the need for the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.
Good job, Governor DeSantis.
They had to close a Publix because people were trying to leave without paying. Not sure where it was.
You seem to be just fine killing a 17 year old because they took your TV. Congratulations. How about she is arrested, made to pay restitution, continue her education, and go through rehabilitation? Or would you rather she is dead?
As a Canadian sheltered from lax laws regarding treatment criminals in many parts of the US or rate of recidivism and revolving door justice is bizarre for a first world country.
I doubt Canada deals with such lunacy as we have here.
A Canadian sitting in their ivory tower who probably has never experienced a hurricane or tornado or flooding destroy their home and then have to watch as lawless scavengers pick over their belongings. Very easy to judge others while you sit safely in your comfortable home. Digusting.
Have you ever killed someone? An attorney friend told me years ago that the average American will say lots of hard core stuff about shooting criminals, but when they do shoot and kill someone, it takes years of therapy to get over the trauma. And that's ignoring the fact that if Florida law is like Texas law, killing someone, even justified, means a grand jury is going to examine the incident and your legal fees will be $10k or more.
Now, I've been through all of the ramifications and possibilities, and will shoot anyone who enters my house. I know what steps to take about contacting an attorney, how to deal with police, and accepting the possibility of being arrested. Very few people have done anything other than brag about "Hell yeah, I'll shoot a looter".
Well, let's hope some neighbor doesn't mistake a dutiful grandson who is coming to check on Grandma's house for a looter.
He specifically said “looters”
I don’t recall DeSantis saying anything about accidentally shooting neighbors grandson for checking on his grandma.
But since you are playing “what if” game, what if the looters turned out to be terrorists and rapists and want nothing but to kill you after they looted all your belongings?
