Nothing. In an all out nuclear exchange nobody gains anything. There’s only losers. However, the original question was what will our response be if he decides to use a couple tactical nukes in Ukraine. I do think he’s contemplating doing that because of what I described above. I don’t think he thinks the entire world will pounce on him. Because that would be the end of the world. Lol

He’s playing poker is what he’s doing. And he’s going to call our bluff. Let’s say your president did you get woke up at 3 AM in the morning that Putin just fired a nuke into the Ukraine and blew up a major city. What are you gonna do at that point.? Are you going to launch a nuke into Russia? Just one? The minute it leaves the missile silo he’s gonna launch three more at us and then it’s just gonna keep going up and up from there until it’s over. You know that’s how it will play out so you’re probably going to do nothing. I mean you’ll scream and yell , implement every sanction known to mankind, but it won’t matter you won’t go to your nukes. It’s suicide.

He may be that Stupid...true. If you think "the world" is going to lay down and not retaliate...that is naive.

Then we need to make him think his use of nukes is the end of the world. Go to DefCon 1 until verbal threats of nukes desist.

Many are saying the response by NATO would be to attack his forces using conventional weapons, but that still leaves NATO and Russia in a shooting war and it is almost inevitable at that point that more nukes start being used.

There would be a large-scale conventional military response by US/NATO. Probably heavy use of US air and naval power. Baghdad “Shock and Awe” style.

Oh, yes, they are. Do let us know when you understand the meaning of "stealth."

General Ben Hodges who probably has never even seen a nuke and could be sitting on one and not know it apparently doesn't understand that Russia still has about 3,000 ERWs in the 1 kt to 12 kt range.

Blast damage from a 1 kt ERW is equivalent to a 2,000 to 3,000 pound conventional gravity bomb or PGM.

I love it.
Made me think of Major Kong for some reason

Interesting read from ISW

Escalation, either conventional or nuclear, cannot solve Putin’s problems. If Russian forces are able to expand their attacks against Ukrainian population centers or critical infrastructure, or if Putin is willing to use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine, he can only hope thereby to stop the Ukrainian counter-offensives for a time. Such attacks will not allow his forces to conquer Ukraine and achieve the objectives that extreme pro-war Russian nationalists demand. They may well trigger Western responses that Russian hardliners would see as validating their arguments—but at the cost of devastating Russia’s remaining military power and ability to achieve anything of real value. What could happen if Putin loses the support of the constituency most committed to his vision? It is hard to say.

Lol, another day , another Rambo. So during that "Shock and Awe" what are we going to tell them? Perhaps "We keep this conventional, so would you be nice and do the same?"
