Neighborhood in Oakland fed up with hookers plying their trade in front of children.

The problem is Newsom recently signed a bill legalizing loitering for the purpose of prostitution, so I don't know what the City of Oakland can do about it.

Newsom signs bill to repeal anti-loitering prostitution law that trans activists say leads to bias
On Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB357 by state Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, which repeals a 1995 law that prohibits loitering in public places with the “intent to commit prostitution.” Wiener said the current loitering law is written so vaguely that it has led to police officers and prosecutors profiling trans, Black and Latino women.

Scott Wiener is a cancer. There is no perversion he will not celebrate and promote or attempt to legalize.

I see no reason for it to be illegal as long as the sex workers pay taxes what two consenting adults do in private is their business, not the government.

Of course, it has pitfalls how will they stop the sex trafficking and abuse of the law?

It goes on no matter what. What they need to focus 200% on is child related sex crimes. People like Epstein could have been taken down a long time ago, and there are probably a whole lot more out there like him too. Go after the people doing the most damage to society.

The problem is they aren't doing it in private. They are doing it on public streets.

And legalizing prostitution isn't going to make all aspects of it disappear. Every time prostitution is discussed, some will argue that legalizing it like a business and taxing it will somehow get all of them off the streets and make everything more regulated and safer.

Life isn't that easy unfortunately. A lot of prostitutes wouldn't want to work in a regulated business for any number of reasons, and legalizing still doesn't address the sex trafficking of minors. A lot of sick johns still seek this aspect of it.

Look no further than marijuana to know that legalizing anything doesn't necessarily make it better.

California’s legal weed industry can’t compete with illicit market

Quote:
California’s cannabis market is booming nearly five years after voters legalized recreational weed. But there’s a catch: the vast majority of pot sales are still underground.

Rather than make cannabis a Main Street fixture, California’s strict regulations have led most industry operators to close shop, flee the state or sell in the state’s illegal market that approaches $8 billion annually, twice the volume of legal sales.

Many homeless people also don't want to be housed. Prostitution is a blur of homelessness, mental illness, and drug abuse. I am not saying there aren't successful prostitutes I have met a few that travel internationally. However the streetwalkers are not of that caliber. They are out smoking drugs, showing their muffs, and likely the motel they do their "date" in is likely to be their h9me address for those few hours.

A successful sex worker charges by the hour, a streetwalker stays all night because they have nowhere else to go.

This is actually a good thing. I just hope they input some regulations. We still need to maintain public decency. Also both the prostitute, and the john need protections.

Do you really think California would actually prosecute pimps? This is a farce.

California will then turn around and tax and regulate it so stupidly the whole business goes underground again.
