To become energy independent we're going to have to get our energy from renewable resources. As long as we have to buy oil from other countries we're prisoners.
If you turned all of the oil companies loose to drill wherever they wanted, it would still not help a bit at the pump. No corporation is going to ever be altruistic enough to produce more gasoline so they can sell it to you cheaper at the pump. That's not how business works. That's not how anything works.
The alternative is for the government to nationalize the petroleum industry like Venezuela, where gas is currently two cents per liter. For that to happen, the United States would have to accept Marxism.
Choose wisely, grasshopper.
well ya ok, but you are confusing things that we can tune, alter and fix as is vs choosing someone who states 'we aint doing it at all'
as we have learned, oh I dunno, last 100 years: if you have a stable KNOWN supply, market forces will relax and speculation eases. as opposed to the biden effort: 95% of the nation needs it like right now so go tell all the producers they aint gettin no more. That biden price hike will work on ANY goods.
How long is any type of energy independence going to last when we're dependent on non-renewables extracted from the ground? It's time to permanently shift to renewable energy sources.
We can walk and chew gum... I've seen that happen.

Venezuela ? Weren't people eating their pets there so they didn't starve , not too long ago ? Yay Marxism !
We are a net importer of crude oil but in terms of overall petroleum trade it is balanced because we export more refined petroleum than we do crude petroleum. Which makes sense due to our ability to refine.
Well when we haven’t built new oil refineries in 40 years it’s a lot more complicated than just turning on the switch. There are a lot of dynamics at play and nothing is as easy as it seems but yes we should become energy independent versus the alternative which is energy dependence on China with their toxic solar panels and defective windmills which aren’t even if feasible energy source. we are as stupid as stupid does
Exactly. All the oil in the world that we can extract on our own soil doesn't mean anything if we don't have the refining capacity for it.
I thought the point of developing renewable energy resources was precisely to reach energy independence. The more diverse our energy sources are, the better shape we'll be in, no? Human life has evolved to the point where it requires ever more energy to sustain itself. Diversifying energy production needs to be combined with new efforts at conservation, otherwise we'll continue digging ourselves into a hole we won't be able to climb out of.
So, Biden has slowed our energy production, drained our Strategic Reserve and is trying to start a war with Russia, what a disaster.
