No one is going to starve. All 50 states produce food. CA is just one of the top producers - about 11%. We import more food than that from other countries. Other top producing states are Texas, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.
Good time to start preparing for next year's vegetable garden.
I love my vegetable garden, but my small, suburban yard simply will not produce enough to keep my husband and me fed. If you have the space, the water, and the time, though, more power to you!

The problem is that the food from the midwest is all grains as well as meat- very few fruits and vegetables.
Most of the vegetables consumed in America come from the Valley in CA. For anyone who has never been there, just a jaunt through that region reveals that the only way that land remains productive is through aggressive irrigation. We are emerging from an unusually wet 150 year period in that region and rainfall averages are returning to normal levels.
Without the Colorado River and the Hech Hechy resevior, CA would be a desert (and many parts still are).
Agave is 80% fructose. Some health nuts complain about HFCS while telling people agave is healthy... That's why I don't trust what people say regarding health.
HFCS is only 55% fructose. Table sugar is 50%. There's little difference health wise, and honey and maple syrup aren't magic health potions either. They are sugar.
Now a little ethanol....that is a health potion. Let the bacteria and yeast ferment that sugar and enjoy the results.
