Why have human customer support, who you have to pay and provide benefits to, when you can just terminate the account? Big tech 101.

Because if we did get digital currency then there is no more need for a bank and paypal would benefit.

In that PayPal agreement is a reference to "protected characteristics".....talk about vague

Talk about ARROGANT... and I'd argue ILLEGAL!
Besides, isn't almost all money tracked and held in the form of electronic values in digital accounts.. like checking, saving, credit card transactions, Venmo, investments at brokerages... and payments are almost all via computer.
Screw PayPal.. this is another example of the neo fascism of the progressive left and I'm NOT gonna play!

Explain how paypal, a payment processing service fines people online? Simply don't post online with the same email address that paypal has. And they can't do that. Or don't controversial stuff online under your name. This is the only place I opine on politics.

You still miss the age-old question. Who gets to define what "controversial stuff" is?

Of course, they aren't going to go out and just start searching sites for bad posts. But as you said they are a payment processing company that happens to be owned by eBay. You have an eBay store that Paypal doesn't like...they had every intention of fining you.

You have a website and put a Paypal link on your site to accept payments....they know who you are. If they don't like what you say...they wanted to fine you.

Paypal gets to determine who they do business with. When you deal with any online entity you agree to the terms of service. As long as they do not violate the law they can do what they want. You want the government to get involved and force them to do things they don't want to do? Now fines seem extreme. I think its a bad idea.

If you are marketing KKK gear and take paypal. Paypal has a right to not want to be associated with you. Obviously this is not that extreme. Of you just political commentary on your site I don't with what Paypal wants to do but its their payment platform.

The fine part is odd. I could see no longer letting you use paypal for payments. But according to the link it was not suppose to be policy or they backed off due to pressure. Who knows.

I have had businesses and been self employed for decades. Part of longevity and success is not mixing my business with politics. But if your business is marketing political related stuff then its going to be a bumpy ride if it clashes with those that lean left like Paypal. Otherwise it should be a non issue. I take Paypal.

Conservatives need to create alternative networks. Whether it be payment processing or social media or whatever. 70 million plus voted for Trump in 2020. Should be a market for this kind of them. So far still FB, Twitter etc still dominate. If the country is more or less split down the middle that should not be the case. Conservative social media outlets have trouble being successful.

This is the sad truth in a nutshell. I was looking around this weekend and read that there are alternatives to PayPal but can't seem to find anyone willing to name these alternatives. Probably they don't have any more idea than I do. I found one recommended... AlignPay. When I went to the site I could find no info on how a regular person wishing to centralize his payments, so he doesn't post his credit card information on the web, can join. Just boilerplate advertising for companies to come be part of AlignPay. I'm going to dig further but not right now. I use PayPal about 4 or 5 times a year so if I cancel it won't matter to me or them. I probably will cancel though. I just don't like the idea of the AUP. I don't want to wake up one day and find my bank account lighter because of some nebulous user agreement that can mean anything they want.

To add... I don't think passing laws to prohibit this kind of business relationship are helpful either. Laws can also be passed against what we support. If you have true neutral businesses of this type each will find it's own level of equilibrium with it's customers. As it should.

I tried to send U.S. funds to the gmail addresses of two different people in Ukraine - once in July and once last week. Both times, after I clicked the send button, a message popped up saying, “transaction refused.” No explanation was given.

Stopped using them a while ago and will never use them again. I’m not into supporting authoritarianism.

I wonder how many accounts have been closed over the last few days. They deserve it.
