Politicians have repeatedly said stupid stuff about voting groups over the years as if they're monolithic.
Trump has a long history of saying stupid or at least un-polished (charitable) stuff, he's a loud-mouth.
The difference is that depending upon who says these dumb things the reaction (after checking political affiliation) ranges from excusing them for it up to calling them a racist Nazi blah blah blah.
It's just the game.
What people say and how they say it tells me alot about them. If words are just words, then why are said politicians saying stupid things? And furthermore, why vote for someone who would hit below the belt (figuratively)?
Trump claimed "no one has done more for Israel than me". Then complained that American Jews don't love him more. Which is the same old line that knee-jerk support for Israel's government somehow equates to pro-semitism, which is ridiculous because, after all, Jewish Americans are Americans first.
Jonathan Greenblatt, the head of the Anti-Defamation League, tweeted on Sunday, "We don't need the former president, who curries favor with extremists and antisemites, to lecture us about the U.S.-Israel relationship. It is not about a quid pro quo; it rests on shared values and security interests. This 'Jewsplaining' is insulting and disgusting."
Why Trump is bothering to bring this up now is unknown.
Trump has done more for Israel than any American President in history and that's true, many American Jews (the seculars) don't give the recognition for it.

These Elitist know NOTHING about the common man or common jew.
They don't care about them....period.
When Trump speaks to the avg. Jew, idiot Greenblatt thinks he represents them....WRONG!
Greenblatt has 'ALWAYS BEEN A CORPORATE LOBBYIST'... Proven Fact he cares NOT for the common israeili or American Jew...

Other than stating that Jerusalem is the capital and selling them weapons like all US presidents have done, what did Trump do for Israel or his buddy BB?

Trump panders to the Orthodox/Hassidic's which is the Jewish version of the religious right and these groups vote as a block how their told to. They are politically opposite of the more moderate (secular) observers of the faith.
Funny that this same religious right don't even recognize the modern state of Israel and they don't contribute to its defense. Their former President was a hard line right winger which is why Trump got along with him, many referred to him as a despot depending on their perspective.
I think it is unavoidable that a stupid statement says much about the speaker.
What it says oddly tends to follow political preconceptions and so forth.
Congress is rife with people that have made *questionable* comments toward jews and been buddies with Farrakahn but yeah, Trump doesn't have the magic (D) shield to give him a free pass.
Will second this as an (ethnic) jew in america. My jewish family members (ranging in age from 89 to 26) feel the same.
Its anecdotal, but that lines up with the views of my Jewish friends as well.
