Biden* profited when he was VP, he'd charged the SS to stay on his property. Maybe he still does today.

MAL and other resorts that Trump owns are businesses and renting the rooms and cottages are a part of that business. If the SS weren't taking up the spaces, then Trump would be renting those spaces out to the people in the public.

The committee found that the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “excessive nightly rates on dozens of trips” as high as $1,185 per night despite claims by the former President’s company that federal employees traveling with him would stay at those properties “for free” or “at cost.”

“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” the panel’s chairwoman, New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, wrote in a letter to the service’s director on Monday.

When he was president, Trump traveled frequently to properties his company ran as businesses, including Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. While he was there, some agents and officers stayed in rooms at those properties, though others rented rooms at nearby hotels.

Charging his protective detail for lodging at his own properties was a controversial practice when Trump was in office and has continued in his post-presidency.

So the grifter was profiting while staying at his properties what a surprise. Not
I mean come on, it's a democratic panel investigating Trump. Notice the chairwoman even says "may"?

The Trumps don't just pocket that money. There are operating and maintenance costs involved and they may have been rented to someone else in other cases.

But it worked exactly as intended, here you are all mad about "grifting". Just gotta stir up the base.

well.... 4 x $400K = $1.6MM.

The article/committee said "appears to exceed $1.4MM in total charges".

Which number is larger, 1.6 or 1.4?

How much of the $1.4MM is alleged to be overcharges? We "know" this:

Quote:
The committee said the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service more than the government rate at least 40 times from January 2017 to September 2021.
After Jan 21, 2021, any new overcharges don't matter. However, in the interest of education, let's do a little math and assume ALL 40 times were at the alleged WORST "overcharge":

Quote:
charged a nightly rate of $1,160 to stay at the Trump hotel in Washington, DC...According to the General Services Administration’s website, the per diem rate was $242 in March 2017 in Washington, DC.
$1,160 - 242 = $918 x 40 occurrences = $36,720 in overcharges. Some profit-making there I tell you!

Bingo…the hypocrisy never fails to runneth over…but because Trump
Was that the total it cost to protect Trump or just what was paid to his hotels. Compare apples to apples instead of apples to watermelons.

It probably cost that much to research the issue.
I sure hope Congress cracks down on this type of grift. Maybe they'll pass the bill banning trading in stocks instead of letting it die?
Good to see Oversight with a microscope on this while billions and trillions just blow out the door.
Or pass a law that the law they passed applicable to congress themselves.

Seems like a desperate attempt to push Trump's name into the media cycle 3 weeks from the midterms.
Again, if they were so anti-corruption why did they shelf the bill that would stop pretty much everyone in the government from profiting off insider information?
That's the type of real action every American would get behind and it would be a hell of lot more money saved by the American taxpayer.
They could also be looking for the 100s of BILLIONs in theft from all Covid related money.

The rooms would have been rented by the public if SS didn't occupy them.

Perhaps you should ask the OP or read what they said/posted instead of making such statements and assumed comparisons…because Trump.
