Bingo…though the gotcha attempts will never stop even when he’s long gone, and it’s hilarious that this is brought up because Trump and they ignore expenses by other Presidents who spent more.

The Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “exorbitant rates” – upwards of $1.4 million over four years – to protect the former President and his family at properties they owned, according to documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Monday.
The committee found that the Trump Organization charged the Secret Service “excessive nightly rates on dozens of trips” as high as $1,185 per night despite claims by the former President’s company that federal employees traveling with him would stay at those properties “for free” or “at cost.”
“The exorbitant rates charged to the Secret Service and agents’ frequent stays at Trump-owned properties raise significant concerns about the former President’s self-dealing and may have resulted in a taxpayer-funded windfall for former President Trump’s struggling businesses,” the panel’s chairwoman, New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, wrote in a letter to the service’s director on Monday.
When he was president, Trump traveled frequently to properties his company ran as businesses, including Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. While he was there, some agents and officers stayed in rooms at those properties, though others rented rooms at nearby hotels.
Charging his protective detail for lodging at his own properties was a controversial practice when Trump was in office and has continued in his post-presidency.
So the grifter was profiting while staying at his properties what a surprise. Not
Government rates are not hotel specific. In fact, they tend to align closer to lower end motels/hotels. As such, the implication that Trump's hotel soaked the government by charging higher rates is complete nonsense - and you fell for it. Furthermore, it is not terribly unusual for government employees (or those who are beholden to government rates) to be granted waivers to exceed the government per diem for a variety of reasons (proximity to work location, crime, etc) . The current government per diem for NYC is $286 per night. The Secret Service protective detail must be located in close proximity to the President, who probably shouldn't be staying at a Motel 6. $1185 per night in hotel of Trump caliber is not terribly exorbitant, especially for a short notice reservation (obviously required for security purposes). There is no story here, except perhaps he probably should have stayed somewhere in which he did not have a financial interest.
In any case, the MSM and liberals are once again showing how desperate they are to vilify Trump. Quite sad, actually.
This is exactly why during Trumps 2nd year in off like 8 or 9 months into the year secrete service ran out of funding he was charging them like $20 for a bottle of water and $20 to use the bathroom what a snake. Trump should have been happy to have security protecting him 24/7 without the security there is a good chance someone could have taken him out.

What I think -- is if we provide facilities for PResidents to live in -- meaning the White Hosue and Camp David - outside of those facilities, every administration be given a budget that allows the President a budget to vacation, to spend week ends somewhere else. That budget would include the cost of travel, security, etc........they get a certain amt. and then after that they are on their own.
I suspect Trump's Mar A Lago expenses, if done at real costs, were some of the most expensive. A President going to a private residence that has a room and fcilities for the Secret Service isn't incurring that cost......
But set a budget and stop bickering.
These 'Trump charges for secret service' threads pop up every few months. I do remember researching when one of those past threads popped up and found that congress does set a cap for how much can be paid out for housing the SS, and congress had long ago created an oversight committee to keep tabs on the spending. If Trump, Obama, Biden*, etc., charged too much then the overage simply would not be paid. Obviously what Trump had charged is within the budget that congress had set.
Better to spend tax dollars protecting a competent, hard working President and his family than spend tax dollars on the Secret Service standing guard over Hunter and his perverted debauchery.

MAL and other resorts that Trump owns are businesses and renting the rooms and cottages are a part of that business. If the SS weren't taking up the spaces, then Trump would be renting those spaces out to the people in the public.

Members can stay there. People sponsored by members can stay there. The general public cannot.
