This is true. Just like during the dotcom era. Many were let go after the dotcom bust.
It appears most companies are letting go 10-15%, which sounds more like right-sizing than massive layoffs. Twitter is a different story, of course.
I think Meta is letting 15% go, as well as closing their NYC office.
For the time being, the layoffs appear to be standard ebb and flow based on market conditions. I don't see any systemic bloodbaths as yet.
Meta is only closing their Park Avenue office... which was temporary space until the Farley building was renovated. They've been opening up parts of the Farley office at a time. While they will have one less building, they will have more overall square footage in NYC.
One oddity that has not been addressed, I believe.
Mr. Musk was making the 'blue check' verification mark available to all that agreed to pay the $7.99 monthly fee. Yet, the account would no longer be actually 'verified'.
So, one actress (Valerie Bertinelli or such; married at one time to a rocker), paid her money, and began posting as Elon Musk. When she tired of it, the comedian Kathy Griffin took over, again posting under the name Elon Musk, blue check mark and all.
Mr. Musk was not amused, and issued a tweet saying that anyone hereafter using his name would be banned forever.
I see several executives have resigned including the head of content moderation. The government might have to step in, Musk is out of his league.
Why would the government need to step in?
