I'm always puzzled why people think a president can miraculously solve a problem on his own, not realizing that the president has little personal power over things like inflation, or most retail prices like gas or food.

But this article is a reminder that much of the problem is just corporate greed, and if a sizable number of Americans, even just 5%, "just said no" and stopped buying, or drastically cut consumption of a particular product, the corporation might get the message. Sure, you can afford it. But why provide your implied approval for price gouging? Drive less. Switch to a generic product at the market. Delay that purchase. Our willingness to spend just makes things worse.

Corporate America Has a Message for the Fed About Inflation
Many executives across a range of industries over the last few weeks have said they expect to see sustained demand. In many cases, they plan to continue raising prices in the months ahead...
If companies continue to charge more and consumers are still willing to pay, inflation will be harder to stamp out.

Nice try. You want to walk 20 miles to and 20 back from work each day? You want to eat Food Club Sugar Bombs rather than real food? You want to shut the heater down this winter and let the pipes freeze and burst?

Actually, inflation has a way of encouraging the behavior OP is seeking. Since everything costs more and wages are losing to inflation, people are forced to cut back on consumption in many cases, whether they want to or not. When shortages happen, the cutbacks can be particularly steep for the average Joe and Jane. Seems the Brandon administration is doing everything possible to encourage the worst outcomes possible when it comes to supply and demand, as well as consumer price inflation. Let's not forget, he is actively waging a war against our coal and oil industries which will further exacerbate the high inflation and supply issues we are already dealing with.

Inflation doesn't encourage people to cut back, it forces people to cut back. There hasn't been a single case where inflation hasn't caused people to stop buying certain products, and there hasn't been a single instance where lack of demand helped to reduce inflation.

Inflation is caused by creating money without a corresponding increase in production, which results in more money chasing fewer goods. And you’re right, one man doesn’t have control over that, but a group of men in both congress and the federal reserve do.

As for the costs of energy, that’s another matter. There is much blame to be assigned to a president and his party’s energy policies that can and have caused huge increases in costs, aside the increases associated with inflation.

Trump’s energy policies resulted in the US becoming energy independent and a net exporter of energy, while Biden has reversed those policies, causing us to lose that status and once again become dependent on foreign energy, and that has given rise to the energy costs we’ve seen.

The government overspending is the cause of inflation.

Pissed that your economy is being destroyed? Then destroy your economy!

- OP

A way to combat inflation would be to start buying and selling stuff with gold and silver. The only thing allowed to be money constitutionally in the US.

Pandemics have consequences. Some may deny that we had a pandemic, but the fact is that it caused a huge disruption to the international supply line. China still is shutting down factories.
