Whether you believe climate change is real, a hoax, overblown or a real concern, most of what we hear about it, much of the entire narrative is a useless exercise in virtue signaling.

Modern society runs on fossil fuels and green energy is nowhere close to replacing it on the timetables being discussed (or probably any timetables if we are talking just wind and solar). It requires fossil fuels for back up as well as extraction of raw materials (which are limited) and it requires disposal in an environmentally friendly way.

Anywhere in the world where they lean heavily into this, they end up backing off and going back to the old standbys. Biden gave up our energy independence so he could import our energy on giant tankers that apparently run on Greta Thornberg's good intentions.

We can and should strive for cleaner energy that goes further but pretending we can do this without fossil fuels is a pipe dream.

Green energy as it is, is not ready.
The developing world, not to mention China and India are NOT going to reverse their progess for the sake of the planet

The world will NOT willingly return to a preindustrial state.

I'm a skeptic on the subject and I think much of science is overly alarmist but I'm just struck by the stupidity of the conversation and inability of people to realize that they are just virtue signaling if they think they can solve this.

Chernobyl was a very poorly designed plant. It had no hardened casing. Then it was mishandled, resulting in the melt down.

Nuclear is in my opinion the only clean energy source besides hydro and hydro can only work if one has plenty of water and no greenies. Greenies say we have to save the planet so let's not build nuclear and hydro plants because environment.

Of course. For as long as John Kerry and Joe Biden fly around in private jets (the latter in a private jet that taxpayers paid for) to lecture us about climate change, and live in low lying coastal areas while claiming half the world is going to be underwater, they can go F themselves.

Start flying in Economy class like everyone else, greenies, then we'll talk.

It used to be called global warming. That’s all you need to know.

What rules are laid down for regular folks are disregarded by politicians and the elites with their limos, jets and steak dinners. I don't believe any of it. It's another talking point to distract and divide us while funneling more money into the coffers of those who have caused this mess and continue to profit by it..

It's a bit hard to convince an Eskimo that global warming is a bad thing.

The fraud and the scam is stating that they know how bad it will be and how soon it will be.

In reality, global warming is an extremely long term problem and there is disagreement on how bad the effects will be. That HAS to be kept in mind when implementing actions. Banning fertilizer in the Netherlands to shut down 50% of Europe's crop output just causes pain and death, as does shutting down oil rigs and refineries.

You are choosing guaranteed death pain and misery over hypothetical death pain and misery

Historically we have innovated out of all our large scale problems. Even right now today we have the technology to dim the sunlight through seeding sand into the upper atmosphere and that would cool the Earth overnight and solve the problem, We can do this any time, and Musk has said he has the ability to deploy filters in orbit on a large scale.

It is possible in 10 years we'll have revolutionary new turbines to suck all the extra carbon out of the air or we engineer super plants to eat it all up

They would screw it up and plant life - which needs carbon - would suffer greatly.

Oh no it's not! Their traditional sources of sustenance from food to economy is being decimated by warmer temps and loss of ice.

If you look around the world it kind of seems that many areas have had their climate affected. Some places are getting hot summers when their summers used to be chilly (England) and others are getting seasons that are out of whack. Lots of funny and odd climate changes. But we don't know if humans caused it or not. After all, the dinosaurs became extinct due to climate change.

Back in the 1960s and '70s it was called environmentalism and it was not and is not virtue signaling. Check the statistics, look at all the plastic they're finding in the ocean, read about animals that are becoming extinct faster than ever happened before. I'd say something is going on and we should be open minded and maybe a bit worried when we see pictures taken at the Arctic and do we care about polar bears or not. People have cared about the earth and nature for a long time. It's only recently that people have become so selfish and greedy that they don't even care about our earth.
