Lefty voters aren't smart, so of course they fell for that.
Abortion is illegal in some states now.

Yeah, it was a right protecting people from oppressive state legislatures.

Abortion has been illegal in all states until just recently when some state legislatures passed laws allowing abortion at any point of gestation. Even before Roe was overturned, abortion was illegal in most states after 22 weeks.

They haven’t taken back the Senate, and still could lose the HOUSE (it’s currently Dems 201 and Repubs 2011 with 23 races still in play). Fact is Republicans pissed off Suburban college educated women (married, single, moms or not). Yes, it was because of ABORTION.

If a future SCOTUS ever ruled against 2A, the Dems would pay a heavy price… well that’s what happened here. It’s time to do a post mortem on this election cycle and figure out where to go from here or 24’ will be another disaster.
Lolz. Those darn Republicans and that pesky Constitution. Also, you pretty much just called an entire demographic (suburban college educated women) morons. What did they ever do to you? Anybody who voted Dem because Roe v Wade was overturned should be declared an enemy of the state and have their citizenship revoked. Or learn to read.

Abortion cancelled out inflation as being the major issue in this election. The traditional Republicans still meet expectations. The MAGA/Trump bootlicker candidates are the ones who lost big and drug down the rest of the party.
Some of what happened was the craziest thing I ever saw...though it was real slick.
The Democrats actually put money into the Republicans most radical candidates primary races...figuring they would be easier to defeat.
They were right.

Doesn't matter how you personally feel about it. It lost you votes and may lose you the executive in 24.

Had it not been for the Dobbs decision, the Republicans would have won in a landslide.
I couldn't read the NYT link.
From the CNN poll in your first link, it pretty much backs up what I'd said about the RvW being a wash:

Abortion should be:

Legal in all cases
D - 86%
R - 11%

Legal in most cases
D - 60%
R - 38%

Illegal in most cases
D - 9%
R - 90%

Illegal in all cases
D - 11%
R - 88%

As far as more young people voting, there probably would not have been nearly as many of them voting if there had been no mass mailing of ballots. Many young people don't seem to be as interested in voting as they do when they get older.

I can almost picture it across the country:
Parent to child: Your ballet is here, fill it out.
Child: I don't know who to vote for.
Parent: Just mark it straight D/R and I'll mail/take it to the polls for you.

From that CNN poll:
Opinion of Biden's student debt relief plan
Approve
Democrats 82%

Abortion should be:
Legal [across the board]
Democrats 73%

More democrat voters cared about the free money than they did abortion

On another note, 88% of democrats think the economy is "excellent/good"?

It was about repubs not clarifying the term abortion.

It was not an all or noting issye as the dems made it appear.

Because the repubs failed to dissect the term for the public, to explain what they support vs an all out no restriction abortion the dems were pushing.

LG is responsible for lost votes by his lack of differentiating the two abortion camps. Of course the hapless repubs could have picked up the ball, but pretended abortion paled in comparison to inflation and crime.

they followed the polls and not insight into human nature.

It was a large factor. I've heard it said single women vote +35 points favoring democrats while every other demographic.. single men, married men, and married women, leaned republican by at least 7 points.

Sadly, the republican party still seems to be the party of non college educated whites.

The 2022 Senate map was the best for the Dems, relative to the 2024 and 2026 cycles. In retrospect, this result is about as well as should have been expected. In the House, the GOP added about 15 seats from 2020 on, so they started at a much higher level than they do w/o the White House also. That reduced possible 2022 gains. Finally, 2022 is full of more coin toss House results than usual.. Races decided by fractions of one point, either way.

We are an amazingly virtually 50/50 nation of Red & Blue seats.
