Thousands of Florida students committed under Baker Act in past school year
Minors account for %17.74 of over 128K Floridians ‘Baker Acted’ in 2019-20 fiscal year
When we’re having our convenings and meeting with folks regionally … is there a lack of resources, and we’re just Baker acting kids because we don’t have anybody else to call?
Are teachers just throwing the “crazies” at kids because the can’t handle them? Is it a discipline problem, or depression? Is it the whole trans thing ? Not much information, but seems like a lot of referrals to mental health facilities, with possible long term implications.
Well, the numbers are a little wonky. First it says that 5,077 students (including duplicates) were involuntarily committed, but then it says that children 18 and under were 17.74% of the 128,193 total commitments, which would be ~22,700 children, So, were 17k kids committed by parents outside of school? I dunno.
Also, Florida has over 2,791,000 kids in public schools, so the 5,077 is 0.18%, which does not seem like a large number to me.

It says the numbers do not include those outside of school.
The whole story is wonky by itself. And you'd need to see other states information, as well as the psych and socioeconomic status of the kids to make any meaningful comment about it.
Just not enough information to have an informed opinion.
FL tourism is running gay oriented ads out of state reminding people that gays still exist in FL, at least Key West. So perception anyway is that they are persecuting the LGBT and I’m sure many LGBT youth feel that they are.

Show data to back ups your accusation that FL is Baker Act-ing gay kids.
**crickets**
LGBTQ is something to be celebrated. Kids aren't being Baker Act-ed.
Post of the day. Seriously. What a load of disinformation crap.

Why? You don’t read links.
But things like requiring notices to be sent out to all parents if there “may” be a trans kid in their kid’s class sure puts a target on them which certainly isn’t contributing to mental health.

The schools are the ones who Baker Act-ed the kids. Not the parents. Aside from the fact the years in question was the 2019-2020 school year.
Are you saying that ALL the kids the SCHOOL Baker Act-ed during the 2019-2020 school year --- part of which was online and not in person due to COVID -- were because all the kids identified as gay?
Gonna double down on that?
Mmkay. As you were.
