That's because Finland wasn't even a country before Russia fought with Sweden and took over the territory.
Now, Finland is a minuscule country that has no chance in fighting against any big country. It'll be interesting to watch how Finland will fight against China in the war over Taiwan.
Throughout history, Russia has resettled its people into areas being absorbed. If I was Finnish, I would be concerned that all of these immigrants are the advance team, and excuse for a future invasion.
This is exactly the justification used by Putin to invade Ukraine: Russians in Ukraine needed to be "saved".
It's hard to imagine why the largest country in the world feels the need to take over neighboring countries especially when it is costing them so much as a country. (China is another example.)
Instead of cementing his legacy as a great leader, this war will destroy his place in history.
Germans in the Sudetenland also needed to be saved.
But the territory of Finland belongs to Sweden, doesn't it?
Sweden is a poor socialist country with almost no army, so it can't return its territories.
Walls and fencing are different. I'm just clarifying what the Finns are actually doing.
Fencing is cheaper, I assume, fencing between borders is done all over the world, there is even a fence of sorts in place between Canada and the US. If that fence were a wall, then people would look at it differently, especially politically.
Trying to equate what is happening in Finland, to what is/has happened the US is silly, IMO.
I don't think it's racist to keep unwanted people out of your country. You have no obligation to open your doors to anyone that wants in.
