Has the insurance industry weighed in yet?

I assume they aren't paying out for physician recommended suicide?

Or are they? Get approval to let your physician kill you and your family still gets the life insurance, but do it yourself, not physician approved ... and no money for you?

In my opinion, if you want to commit suicide, that should be your own choice. BUT, you're going to have to do it yourself because anything else should be considered murder. If I say I want to die, you have NO right to kill me. Only I have that right (for myself).

We don't have all the facts in the case.

But yes -- from what the family says this is concerning.

But we have no clue of all the details because of privacy issues.

Oh and by the way --- this was a one of in the province of British Columbia. There aren''t any other cases. And theere seems to be discrepancy in the stories.

In a nursing home today, if you tell a nurse you're depressed and want to die, Legal 2000 comes into play, and you're sent to a Psych Ward because you're a danger to yourself.

I worked in a nursing home for 18 years and I'm familiar with Legal 2000 and I used to warn my patients of it, if you want to die, keep it to yourself, don't tell a nurse that, or you may end up in a Psych Ward.

There's always Dignitas in Switzerland, the most liberal suicide clinic in the world. One way airfare and $5850 will do the job. And you don't have to be terminal.

I'm guessing that you are referring to life insurance policies.

Most life insurance policies have a waiting period before they will pay out in regards to suicide. That's often two years. After that, anything goes. If you off yourself after two years, and you're covered by Whatever Life, then Whatever Life will pay your beneficiaries the value of the policy.

The idea is to prevent you from getting a Whatever Life policy today, then killing yourself tomorrow. No, you have to wait two years.

So... the doctor will just kill anyone who is depressed?

That is certainly life threatening.

Not that it matters to the person who responded to my post, but:

I am familiar with issues and challenges regarding euthanasia. A few decades ago, a very close family member was facing terrible pain and no chance of recovery after a medical doctor made a mistake in treating the person. My relative did end their life, with assistance from the partner. This was before climate zealots who despise human life began to preach their highly biased, hate-filled rhetoric. It is important to have an option for euthanasia, but it must be very carefully monitored. The lack of integrity and transparency in medical processes--pharmaceutical kickbacks, etc.--makes many people wary of the safety in "modern" medicine. It's about profit and not true healthcare.

Here in Maine, one hospital already seems to be practicing the "treatment" and care plan on people who are deemed non-essential. We know people who go in and promptly get worse and die. The staff administers a drug that makes the person confused and unable to advocate for themselves.

Drive-by comments that claim "You don't know Canadian hospitals"....more spin.
