Yesterday was the 59th anniversary of the JFK assassination. In the wake of that event, the remainder of the 60s saw democrat politicians (and even a few republicans to be fair), make a full-on assault on gun rights in this country.

For those that don't know, prior to 1968 one could simply purchase a firearm through a magazine, C.O.D.

In 1968, the Democrat-controlled congress passed a massive gun control package that changed the landscape of the firearms industry in the USA.

The main points:

- One could no longer purchase through the mail
- One had to be at least 18 years of age to purchase a firearm
- the "FFL" system was created so dealers had to become federally licensed. This made purchasing guns more expensive and more difficult for law abiding citizens. FFLs became the only place to buy "new" firearms.
- The beginnings of the "background check" system were implemented, since points of sale were now regulated (1993 Democrats added the background check as an amendment).
- One could no longer purchase across state lines
- Every gun produced now needed to have a unique serial number from the manufacturer

I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of people don't have any clue about these regulations. They still today claim "something must be done" and "guns are as easy to buy as books."

This shows the nature of the never-ending quest for "doing something." Nothing will ever be enough.

This was a massive crackdown, and it was done more than a half century ago. Does anyone think this has had an effect on "gun crime?"

In our vast country of 340 million people, and even with the countless thousands of gun laws on the books, recent events have shown that criminals will still find a way. It also shows that a certain segment of our population will always come after rights and say "something must be done!" even though "something has already been done!" countless times, and it doesn't work!

Gun laws would not have prevented the murder of JFK by our own government.....

" This made purchasing guns more expensive and more difficult for law abiding citizens."

Hence MORE "Saturday night specials" were sold.

"One could no longer purchase across state lines"

Not true for ALL states.
