What would Joy Reid and MSNBC prefer as the national myths, the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution or the Great Leap Forward? Seriously, can the whiners find a country that is better? What does Joy Reid think would happen if she published similar blather in Mao's or Xi's China, or in Russia's new BFF, the Central African Republic? Do they want American children taught that the U.S. is a bad country?

OK, I'll grant you, they will say they just think we can improve. Let them tell us how, and let the debate/discussion begin. And while you're at it, have a safe and joyous holiday.

Sounds like she is pushing/advocating modern day violence with her statement. She also made this a republican jab, but thanksgiving has nothing at all to do with republicans specifically. It's a holiday we all can celebrate, and usually do. I don't listen to that women because she obviously has a huge chip on her shoulder and wants people to think less of America. The best we can do for ourselves and our country is to just ignore her.

What a loser who knows next to nothing about history. If she wants to see instances of genocide, she should look at her "peeps." That's all they've done on some scale in nearly every case where they've gained control.

I'll tell you one thing, I'm sick to the point of puking of this ACTUAL myth that the leftists have that the western hemisphere was a garden of eden until whitey showed up. It's simply NOT true. And part of the reason that what happened after they showed up happened was for that very reason.

Perhaps drop the myths and tackle the difficult truths, like grown-ups? Just a thought.

So, when are we going to do that with every subject tossed into the political arena for public fodder and debate? Is she going to talk about how the Native Americans were busy butchering and enslaving each other before the mean ol Europeans showed up? Is she going to discus how African slaves were captured and sold into slavery by their own people, and Europeans didn't go rounding them up like we all saw in the movies??? Is she going to address the fact that civilizations have been fighting for their own survival, as well as to conquer others if they had the power to do so, for thousands of years, long before the USA was a thing?

Folks like (Joyless) Reid are just trying to hit the nerves and emotions in an effort to ruffle feathers for views. I don't know who would want to expose themselves to her brand of hatred at any time of the year, much less a holiday... But if that's their thing, go for it. But being as miserable as that insufferable women is definitely not going to improve your life or make the world a better place.

Guess the OP doesn't know how to ask a proper survey question or give proper options - too many apply. Obvious, given this forum the answer they are looking for and the "discussion" they want to see.

I don't think the manner in which slavery started can absolve the centuries of profiting from it. And it doesn't matter that the U.S. wasn't the first and that in some views other blacks profited from slavery. Those sound like the arguments of 6 year olds!

Slavery is still wrong and we could have extricated ouselves from that economic system sooner. But sure, keep making excuses that you weren't personally responsible so it doesn't matter.

Name me just one country that wasn't conquered without conflict. Mind you, this was 1621. They did things the way they knew how back then, and it wasn't with flowers and fruit baskets and non-binary liberal parades.

Yes, it did get ugly, but if it wasn't for those that took the risks of coming here, idiots like Joy Reid might still be enslaved under some brutal dictator in Bophuthatswana.

Clueless bleeding heart liberals like her like complain about everything, but are too ignorant to give any thought to the alternatives or to the actual reality of history.
