The whole point of democracy, the entire thrust of a republic is that the government will act on the will of the people. We are not a kingdom, bound to sacrifice for the agenda of a priveleged few.

Bush abandoned the most basic principles of democracy to wage his campaign of lies and distortions in order to manufacture consent for his oil war. To this day, he refuses to be honest about why he invaded Iraq.

America is supposed to be better than this. If you can't see that, then you've somehow missed what our country is all about. A democracy means open government, not secrecy and deception. The government isn't an end in itself.

Yet read this board and the spinning continues , will the lies continue for another Bush Junior term? A gaffe vs a lie, sounds like the last two elections repeated. Slam and divert attention. Patriotism rules forget your daily life. Grab with multiple headlines the attention of those who don't really read and pay attention to the followup. Yes Rove will save us again from ourselves.

Patriotism doesn't mean blind allegiance to a failed leader's narrow agenda that is clearly not in the national interest. Loyalty to an elected official should never overrule one's loyalty to our nation and its constitution.

Yes indeed.

Blind allegiance to an individual or a party rather than the nation itself is how a Democracy becomes a Dictatorship.

Turn to CNN. Ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BUSH lied about Iraq etc. This is from his spokesperson. It is breaking news.

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan writes in a surprisingly scathing memoir to be published next week that President Bush “veered terribly off course,” was not “open and forthright on Iraq,” and took a “permanent campaign approach” to governing at the expense of candor and competence.
Ahh yes, yet another news story designed to sell more books..

"A few reporters were offered advance copies of the book, with the restriction that their stories not appear until Sunday, the day before the official publication date."

How surprising. A fired, inept, not very effectual communications director writes a book to place the blame of his incompetence on his bosses.

Maybe he should have grown a couple and spoke up when it mattered.
