Yeah...that's where it gets heavy use. Online girlfriends/boyfriends for months at a time with only a photo to go on and then comes the request for money. Reality hits them hard and heavy.

I never knew this word was associated with dating, but I have always avoided the crazy ones that cause constant conflict.
He could be correct. Today's liberals are liberal in name only. It's more like the horse they use to ride in on. Today's fake liberals are actually borderline authoritarian leftists, complete with brownshirt style paramilitary forces and a leader who demonizes half the country on a regular basis. They also use more modern methods to overcome the will of the people. By censoring and controlling the narratives, doxing people, etc, they can effectively cancel out the opposition, or at least make it seem like it barely exists and resistance is futile.
If you want to find real examples of liberals, you'd have to look back to some of the founding fathers. Real liberals have very little, if any interest in controlling or managing your life.

I heard it first, as a relationship thing. One partner tries to make the other partner think they're crazy and doubt their ability to function rationally.
I just never knew before this where that actually came from - from a husband actually dimming the gaslighting in the house to make his wife think she's crazy.

All kidding aside, there are tons of examples of gaslighting throughout history, and people like to use that word when describing them. It makes me wonder if people said the term in the past when referring to or discussing those events, or how the term came to be used to describe them.

The term is from the 30’s. The classic movie Gaslight with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. I started to hear it starting a few years back. Great movie btw
I know what gaslighting is but these days I equate it with anything that makes me feel like a sane person living in crazytown. Since I live in the Bay Area it happens a lot.
