Yes, if you nitpick this incident you can go on and on about how there was no weapon therefore no deadly force was necessary, etc.

However, in light of how criminals have run amok recently, and that this criminal may in the future have committed theft that leads to death of innocent civilians, this was a good outcome.

This is what happens when you carry and keep looking for your big chance to be a hero. Just because you could save enough nickels and dimes to buy a sidearm to haul around with you to try to get the respect you can’t earn doesn’t mean you’re a White Knight on a steed. You’re still just a schlub.

What it got him was free housing with all his bills paid by the state for a long time. What a fool.

Don't you mean "Black Knight"?
Sure, the guy definitely made a poor decision and will more than likely spend time in prison. I can't say I feel sorry for the shoplifter. He was no pillar to the community and was a repeat offender at this store.

”White Knight” is a reference to the hero in fairy tales, not race. It is used correctly. Google it.

If you don’t feel sorry for a man being killed in cold blood for a minor property crime, how would you feel about it if it was a friend or relative of yours? Would you also support summary execution for littering? How about jaywalking?

Had the gun not been there, everyone would be in a far better position this morning. It was the catalyst that turned a minor offense into a major tragedy for multiple people.

Had the guy not been robbing the store "repeatedly" everyone would be in a far better position this morning. I am trying to muster up some sorrow for this repeat offender but just can't.

That is why there are policemen, and why DG tells employees not to confront shoplifters.

Now if we can explain to fools why they shouldn’t carry guns, we’ve got this thing nipped in the bud.

So you are in favor of execution for minor offenses without trial and pre crime (he didn’t do it but may have in the future so kill him)

That’s how a lot of people think. The one in this story is headed to prison for a long time for acting on his beliefs.

Exactly. Play at “Cop Wannabe” because you own a pistol, go to prison for possibly the rest of your life and lose the right to own a firearm if you ever get out. Or let the real cops handle it since it wasn’t your business in the first place.

So, if your children or other loved ones were in immediate danger, you would be fine with bystanders minding their own business and waiting for the police to arrive?

This isn’t a 2A argument either and if other try to make it into one, it causes the pro 2A side to dig in deeper since the anti 2A group has no real solutions to curb crime, other than banning guns, but not addressing the real issue of the criminals…. How couldn’t care less about gun laws since their job is to break as many laws as possible.

This is where the argument goes wrong. In many places around the country, violent crime has exploded and in many of these areas, police department are at historic low on sworn armed police AND recruitment is at historic lows as well.

If “YOU” choose to carry a handgun, you better know the laws of that state AND make sure that YOU are in the right before even drawing it out of the holster.

With that said, I still lay a significant amount of this incident on our failed criminal justice system, which appears to be failing all across the country. If our criminal justice system was working and this thief was in jail for all his previous crimes, this would have never happen.

If nothing is done soon to fix the criminal justice system, there will be far more of these types of incidents that will be all across the country. In Illinois, due to a change in their laws the police cannot arrest anybody that sneaks into your home at night.. So!! How do you know that all he/she wants are your valuables or if he/she sick goal is to terrorize you, your family before raping and killing you all?

Yes, this is a far different scenario that the shoplifting incident, but this goes to “people should mind their own business” thinking.

Being pro 2A, I do support mandatory formal/classroom training in firearms safety/proficiency training AND an in-depth testing and training on the laws of concealed carrying of a handgun. I am 100% against banning any type of firearm since banning guns and/or hi capacity magazine do nothing, percentage wise, in stopping crime.
