I have mixed feelings about this.

Yes, if you nitpick this incident you can go on and on about how there was no weapon therefore no deadly force was necessary, etc.

However, in light of how criminals have run amok recently, and that this criminal may in the future have committed theft that leads to death of innocent civilians, this was a good outcome.

Quote:
Police said their preliminary investigation determined a fight happened inside the store when employees confronted the man about items he was trying to steal.

The customer, Kevin Jackson Sr, 47, walked into the store, saw the fight, and then shot the man who had been accused of stealing, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, stumbled outside the store and collapsed. He did not have any weapons, police said.

Article says unarmed.

Unless the guy was literally beating the employee to death or something like that...yeah, you can't just shoot someone like that.

It's a "bars on the windows" type neighborhood Family Dollar so that probably has something to do with how things went down.

P.S. Given the bars, there is almost certainly video of the whole thing.

Would you have the same feelings if it were a police officer instead of a random customer who shot the shoplifter?

Yeah how serious was the fight? Shoplifting and scuffle does not warrant the death penalty.

Were they actively fighting at the time? Seems so dangerous to open fire on someone while fighting another. He could have hit the person he was trying to save!

Maybe they'll post a video eventually.

Agree. A simple scuffle doesn't justify shooting someone.

This. Shoplifting is not a capital offense. On the other hand, shooting an unarmed person definitely is. I hope they throw the book at the shooter.

This is why store employees are told not to fight or get in the way of someone stealing. It does not work out in anyone's favor not involved in the theft including bystanders.
