What, gay people fighting to abolish straight marriage?
The group is not being refused service due to its sexual orientation. It's being refused service due to its fighting for discrimination against those of specific sexual orientations.
You can pick what causes you give your time and money. You cannot pick your sexual orientation (or skin color, or heritage, or disability). We protect the groups that people cannot help being members of.
Is this difficult or something?
Is it difficult to show common courtesy? They cancelled as people started showing up.
Restaurant should have not booked it. Cancelling at the last minute just indicates its a business that should go bankrupt.
And there is a difference between "discrimination" and simply being opposed to changing a long established definition of a word. You can be for dealing with the issues gay people had without being for gay marriage.
But in reality, its a moot point. Its not going to be undone. I doubt the Family Foundation is spending much time on it.

It is likely that there is more to the story. Probably someone in the group said something rude or offensive to the staff and "cancelled" was a euphemism for "kicked out". Restaurants kick out rude customers all the time, especially since the pandemic because everyone has gone crazy and there are tons of them now. It is much harder to find waitstaff now so management so management has become more aggressive when it comes to shielding them from rude customers, because they want to keep their servers.

Unfortunately, in today's America LGBTQ is protected and religious people are not. I would be in favor of any business refusing people they don't want to serve for any or no reason myself.

that would be quite a trick, since the restaurant cancelled an hour and half before they were scheduled to eat, and none of them ever even entered the restaurant
