I agree. Plenty of good Christian conservatives on this very board told me in great detail how wrong I was.

There's only so much marriage to go around. If we let the gays get married, that means less marriage for everybody else!

Anyway, here's video of a GOP Congresswoman crying over the vote.

Yeah, that was ridiculously over the top. I mean, what in her life is going to change if two gay people are allowed to marry? Absolutely nothing. I laughed watching that phony display of piety.

Not in dispute and irrelevant to the discussion.

At least for those of us who are not Christian. It's as outlandish to think that I should be held to your values as it would be if I proposed your marriage was invalid and meaningless because you didn't sign a ketubah.

Marriage predates contemporary religious practices.

If you want some irony, if Oberfell goes down, Utah of all places becomes the gay marriage capital of America. It’s been hashed out at the state level there as legal.

And due to some quirks of the LDS Church and how the wrote the state laws and constitution to effectively allow proxy marriage and marriage by correspondence, the modern interpretation of that set of laws holds up that you can get legally married in Utah by making a Zoom call and having someone registered to officiate marriages in Utah do the festivities online (Zoom marriage is also apparently popular with military folks who wish to quickly marry a romantic partner so being against Zoom marriage is anti-supporting our troops and all)

I wish they would let me marry my cat. Then I could put her on the health insurance plan...
