When I first heard about this genital mutilation for children, Dr Mengele came to mind.
I tend to think of the fad that was lobotomies. Alter one's behavior through selective damaging of parts of the brain. Belling talked about the fact that in 50 years he believes that we will look back and ask ourselves how we allowed this to happen to our children, that it will be seen in that light by history.
Any sensible leftist would agree it's reckless to be pushing gender changes on minors. Nobody really knows who they are at that age and become easily subject to passing fads as they grow and mature. I think the left are being fooled by corporate interests including hospital administrators who see this fad as a cash cow. Similarly this happened during covid. It was a huge money grab by politicians and corporations.
Do leftists truly think we should be giving surgeries and chemical castration using big pharma to play God on some 9-15 year olds? Well if you go on reddit, there they are, pretty much unanimous in their support, but who knows how much reddit lefties represent the typical democrat voter. They are just doing it because the right is telling them it's a bad idea. They're just being rebellious children who don't want to do what they're told, which is shortsighted of them on this particular issue, because they are in the wrong. 100%.

The few times I've visited that site, it seemed like they were a bunch of blithering Marxists. Maybe it depends on the subject, subforum or whatever they are called over there, etc.

I'm not answering this as a leftist - I'm not a leftist, but I am definitely left leaning (I actually try to be reasonable on most issues) but as a parent who is actually dealing with this issue for real, personally.
My 15 year old is non binary, leaning toward identifying more male than female.
I do think, in the very large majority of instances, that medical intervention is not necessary and has the potential to be harmful for children, who I do think for the most part need to wait it out and only act when they have the maturity and foresight to understand the consequences of these very life impacting decisions.
I say most because I do think there's a small subset of kids that have been very obviously and distressingly trans and their medical treatment should be in the hands of very specialist care that is extremely carefully considered, but I would certainly exhaust other options than hormones first, and surgery should only be an option for adults.
It is possible to be supportive without being reckless.
Also, there are unscrupulous people in the medical community - the cosmetic surgery field is rife with abuse, when there's money to be made, people take advantage of others' suffering.
I would like any medical professional operating outside their oath for mercenary reasons to be censured accordingly.
But I think most are trying to help. One needs to be careful in all instances, and get second opinions when dealing with any type of serious medical intervention, regardless of discipline.
So long answer - not all left leaning people are blindly for interventions. I think trans people are being used by both sides of the political spectrum.
