"This was not an accidental shooting," Newport News police Chief Steve Drew said.

No students were injured in the afternoon shooting at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, police said in a statement.

The shooting happened in a first-grade classroom, and the child and teacher, who knew each other, were apparently alone, Drew said at an evening news conference.

"The altercation was between a 6-year-old, the student, who did have the firearm, and the teacher, and then a round was fired," the chief said.

Six years old.
What kind of parents/guardians are "raising" this kid?
Unbelievable - in another time. These days, sadly, not so much.

I am sure that child has two loving parents that are properly guiding them through life and not letting them have access to violent music, television, and video games at six years of age, right?...

Too much wishful thinking on my part, perhaps?...

Maybe the teacher was secretly trying to groom the kid and the parents were ignoring the pleas of their kid because they are woke, too, like the teacher?

They were "alone".

"Not an accidental shooting" meaning the kid deliberately shot the teacher because he was angry about something? Wow, that's disturbing on so many levels. Is a six-year-old even cognizant enough to understand that shooting someone in real life is not the same as what he sees on TV? We have some serious soul searching to do about guns in this country.

My kid is the same age, 1st grade.

I am wondering why they were alone in the classroom? Was the kid there for punishment or something?

I pack my kids lunch and walk him to school every morning. I sure as heck would know if there was a firearm in his backpack.

It's been a long time since I was around a six-year-old. Can you answer my question in the post above? I would seriously like to know.

If the child had shown up with a knife, would you have stated, "We have some serious soul searching to do about knives in this county."?

Do not attack the tool, as it is futile to do so. Attack the behavior that causes people to use the tool.
