Yeah, gun control has worked in other smaller countries. As the criminals can't steal guns from responsible owners to then use if they aren't there to steal. 1 gun is stolen every 90 seconds in America and the majority of guns used in crimes were stolen from someone's home or vehicle.
But there are far too many guns here for that to ever really be a solution.
I won't deny that. Although, I'm will to go out on a limb and say, we could air drop cases of AR15's to some to those countries and you wouldn't see a rise in crime or violence.
Our country has major societal issues that those countries don't have.
to make true gun control work, you would have to first ban guns in all of Canada and South America, which would require confiscation and destruction of private property. additionally, you would also need secure borders at all of the ports and the north and south border, then and only then can you truly have gun control in America. Oh, and you would have to get rid of that pesky thing called the constitution.
The US has a violence problem, guns happen to be the preferred tool here. California has strict gun laws and shootings happen regularly, Texas has few gun laws, and shootings happen regularly. Many states are in the middle somewhere and shootings happen regularly in those states. I don't really see a difference because both have the same issue, the American people.
Violence is just like the Drug epidemic, it is self-inflicted by our own citizens and until we address the drivers around both and do not pretend it's one state's gun laws vs another or in the case of US drug use, Mexico or China, then the problem will continue.
Seems there is no real conversation around why our society is so violent and commits violent crimes like homicide, battery, and rape at the levels we do.

No......but you might kill them.
Little side point to those who say we ought to support our brothers and sisters fighting overseas by sending them our AR-15s and that's the difference between the .223 round and the NATO 5.56 mm and the rifles chambered for such things. Long story short of it, those chambered for the .223 round will be experiencing high pressures if using the NATO 5.56 mm round.
But in any event, consider how in those other countries, how quickly those populations obey what the police tell them......and then how people behave toward the police in the USA. As far as populations go, it is probably apples and oranges.

Does being harder on crime with stronger sentences deter mass shooters who are often on suicide runs?
Maybe not, but what makes you think that you're ever going to be able to deter everyone?
Seeing how the vast majority of shootings as well as other types of violent crimes are committed by recidivist, repeat violent criminals....
Wouldn't it make more sense to go after what is attainable, (keeping the known violent criminals locked up) rather than trying to pass useless and probably unconstitutional laws that won't have the desired effect anyways??
I guess it depends on what your end goal is.
Do you care more about going after guns for the sake of going after guns?
Or do you care more about actually saving more lives and reducing violent crimes as a whole?

Because that conversation will be too tough for many to have, and would reflect poorly on too many. It's much easier just to blame a tool these asshats use and not the reasons behind it.
And just think, there are rumors this clown wants to run for POTUS in 2024. If he ends up elected, this country as we've know it is toast.
The ship is sinking. We have state supreme courts ruling in favor of non citizens voting in municipal elections, how long before that gets bumped up from municipalities, to the state level, then beyond ? We have tenured professors spewing racist remarks and getting support for it. We have city DA's letting violent criminals out on the street. The list goes on...What happened ?
