DeSantis, governor of Florida, has been making news by spending loads of time decrying the so-called "diversity" program proposed by course designers.

Meanwhile, the insurance industry in Florida has gone psychotic, driving people out of their homes and condos because of spiraling costs.

Houses and buildings are being re-assessed for millions more than last year, insurance agencies are refusing to insure places without requiring a new roof to be put on (thus making sure a hurricane doesn't cost them any money), and agencies themselves are raising yearly insurance costs by hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars. Homeowners have to pay up or lose their houses or condos.

All this is happening right under DeSantis' nose, but he is absolutely silent on this scheme to put all costs of any and all losses directly upon the homeowners, and not on the agencies whose business it is to protect homeowners.

Insurance for profit is a great business to be in these days. Just transfer the costs right back to the client.

DeSantis is making a name for himself, not attending to business in his state.

Someone has to pay for all the losses the insurance companies incur from tropical storms in the area. Florida is being a hot marked for real estate. The "shacks" that sit on many lots are worth nothing while the land they occupy can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars the state is losing in real estate taxes needed to provide services.

How do you get rid of the beach bums and others? Price them out.

Spiraling costs are caused by biden's destruction of the cornerstone of our economy. the cascade of economic ruin emanates from the destruction of the energy industry.

Biden is controlled entirely by the left wing extremists that make up the mainstream dem party. Biden is not about to negotiate with anyone inthe repub party. That is why governors are doing the best they can given the poison pill biden forced down the throat of the country.

Only the left would think issues could only be handled in sequence and not parallel.

Two or more issues can be addressed simultaneously.

This was an issue before Biden took office. It's a state issue.

Why is this the government's problem? If housing and insurance are too expensive, move to a cheaper state. Housing is expensive because people are moving from liberal hell holes (NY) to states with a good conservative governments. Insurance is high because hurricanes are destructive.

We live in a market-based economy. The American people can decide where they want to live. We don't live in a command economy, where the government dictates what people do.

Get over it. Communism and socialism are dead.

With respect to DeSantis what is he supposed to do? When people can't find insurance, which is becoming the norm, they go to the state. The state run insurance program is getting ever more costly. Keeping it financially solvent means taxation. Not a good look for a Republican who wants to be President. Then again, that may be part of the reason he wants out.

... AND as people with money move into the area and enhance/remodel the property, its value has to be reassessed.

That’s what cultists want to hear. So many already stating they “love him” and there’s no reasoning with facts even if they lose their homes to flooding. The coolaide is strong and very addictive. Best I can hope for is he trips on his own devices and his big arrogant head rolls just like trumpy. But, I’m afraid they will find another maybe worse like Santos. He might be their next god, wouldn’t surprise me.

DeSantis is focused on running for the presidency and little else.

On insurance has he proposed expanding the state's assigned risk pool for those who are in high premium areas? Has he promoted stricter building codes or more frequent inspection for shoreline condos to prevent another collapse? I expect not.

Just like expensive autos. If you can't afford the maintenance, you can't afford the car.
