Not surprising these days.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has officially changed its mission statement, dropping a quote from former President Lincoln because it used male pronouns and was viewed by some as excluding women.

On Thursday, the VA announced that its new motto is, "To fulfill President Lincoln's promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors."

It's good to see that with all of the issues the VA has, this is what they spend their time and energy on.

On the plus side, at least they still mentioned Lincoln and didn't "Cancel" him for such an insensitive and non-inclusive quote.

Well the new phrase does better reflect that nature of the VA and the makeup of our military in 2023.

At least they didn't totally erase Lincoln and History from it but that will no doubt be coming someday soon when a couple of people complain... I'm rather appalled that they did not mention Gay and Trans people in their new mission statement.

I love how gender neutral and generic it is now that it has adopted Democrat-approved language.

"Viewed by SOME as excluding women"? What?

It DOES exclude women, and hearkens back to a time when the military was 100% male. That quote was very appropriate for the time.

Now, that women make up a large part of the military, it's time to find a quote honoring veterans that doesn't so completely exclude women.

How hard is that to understand? As lovely as this quote was, it's no longer appropriate as a statement describing the US military.

What was the quote? I'm not following the link. Is this click bait? Seems odd to leave the quote out.

Here is the old motto...

Quote:
“To fulfill President Lincoln’s promise ‘to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan’ by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.”
Here is the new one...

Quote:
"To fulfill President Lincoln's promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors."

I don't have a problem with the new motto. It's more inclusive of the reality of men and women fighting wars today and actually seems to cover more of what the VA does/it's impact. I didn't have a problem with the old motto either, but the new one is fine by me as well.
