Because it's government censorship and it's not limited to tik-tok. And there's even wording in the bill to prevent the SC from overturning it.

Both of them are 100% correct.

Yes, laws need to be put into place to protect citizens from all social media and search engines. Then a committee to ensure compliance. But banning it, that is unrealistic. Go on tick tock to watch the video's. there are far more adults than kids on there. Not to mention that after awhile you get burned out and put it down.
One big difference.....

TicTok.....China owned....

The others ....Anerican owned

Yes, American corporation have our welfare at heart. They would never use their platforms to manipulate us. I think your observation is a distinction without a difference.

THIS is what all social apps should do:

1. Default to data collection/tracking opt-out when signing up.

2. If data collection is turned on, display the option to opt-out when logging in (or every 24 hours)

3. Prevent any post that violates terms of service to even post. This may require a delay of posting as the post is being reviewed.

A law requiring the above should be passed. If an app doesn't comply, it will be required to cease and desist. Same type of thing like a business that pollutes a lake with it's waste production. Stop, or cease and desist.

More wishful thinking. Well reality is there's been an EO signed and 2 bills in Congress saying the same thing.
They can ban tik tok and decide that any other software is a threat and ban it.

There are degrees of nefariousness. To consider American corporations and the Chinese Communist Party as equally bad is foolish. I personally minimize my involvement with American social media companies but I want absolutely no exposure to Chinese software companies with their links to the CCP.

I believe TikTok is a cancer to the brains for everyone and it should be banned. But I also believe if the Republicans push to ban it completely they will lose the 2024 election. This will have the same effect that abortion had on the 2022 election. They do need to restrict it to any and all government or even commercial (businesses) use.
