There is no labor shortage. Many of the job listings are fake, or duplicates, or old never taken off

Fake or not, but there are metrics, no one is using - or speaking of - when reporting those great new jobs brought by a President X.
1. actual hours of employment per week or month
2. actual job retention rate

In the tech world, they refer to that as resume harvesting. Companies would post positions just to see what talent was out there. In a way, it was a fairly clever way of figuring out who might consider leaving their current employer.

Why can't the IRS just publish quarterly the total amount of wages reported and use that as the employment yardstick. Wait for the estimated tax numbers to come in and adjust after 4/15.

Who would want to work for McWages anyways? A lot of people quit their jobs after they realized the kid at McDonalds makes the same. "Quiet quitters" are what employers called them.

Exactly. I noticed that Amazon dumped a bunch of people, and saw they were advertising for "seasonal" workers. They also have a workamper work force that they depend on that comes and goes. A lot of those places will send people home if they aren't busy, and who can exist on that.

Important point: Anyone looking for a job, check to see how often the company is hiring, especially if you are relocating! If there is high turnover, look elsewhere!

Yes! This has been happening for years in almost every venue. They kept a stack of resumes on their desk, and if someone better comes along, or someone who they can hire for less money than the person who is at or near the top wage for the company, someone gets a pink slip! This happens in most companies, to include manufacturing.

A lot of people don't want to work. It must be nice to just quit. That doesn't work for a responsible individual that wants to put food on the table and pay the rent without dipping in the taxpayers pockets to do it. I know lots of people just quit jobs, most don't even bother to let the employer know they quit. A poor work ethic appears to be contagious, thus the reason they claim unemployment is down, since these people don't look for work, and cannot draw unemployment when they quit. One works at a job until they can find a better job, yes, I am older.

Also, that kid at McDonalds is now most likely in the unemployment line. I know here, the service providers for people with developmental disabilities complained that McDonald's workers were better paid. But, those MdDonald workers were not full-time workers with vacation, sick leave, short/long term disability and a flexible work schedule, but it got them a 25% raise, but still, no one wants to do the job, or so few do it and are overwhelmed as the contractor makes more money with less people, that the good ones don't stay.

Nothing is more irritating than go to an interview only to realize at this time, they don't have any openings.

There are TONS of jobs available. However, these jobs either:

1. require physical labor (barge and rail transportation workers, construction)

2. require a time committment to get higher levels of pay AND work (plumber, electrician, welder)

3. require higher education and training (nursing, physician, engineer)

4. Are low paying service jobs (fast food, housekeeping, lawn care) that do not provide benefits

People are flat out lazy today and have no sense of deferred gratification.

There are many motivated (and educated) people out there. Just as much as there as unmotivated and uneducated or under educated people out there. Those who are motivated and have good skills, experience, and a track record, tend to put effort into finding their next career job, unless they have enough $$$$$ they can pause before going back to work. And those motivated folks take initiative, and don't expect a good job to come find them.

Turns out it's not all B&W as most people think -- lots of shades of gray in there.

The CBO posts tax revenue and spending data. The latest info:

Quote:
"The federal budget deficit was $724 billion in the first five months of fiscal year 2023, the Congressional Budget Office estimates—$248 billion more than the shortfall recorded during the same period last year.

Receipts totaled $1.7 trillion during the first five months of fiscal year 2023, CBO estimates—
$72 billion (or 4 percent) less than during the same period a year before."
https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2023-03/58938-MBR.pdf

Deficit spending up 52% year over year.
Tax revenues down 4%.

Biden is doing a HORRIBLE job. All those jobs he claims to be creating? Why aren't they paying taxes, thereby increasing tax revenue year over year?

In my industry - engineering - there is a massive shortage. We've been significantly understaffed for years.
