Let the market decide? We didn’t and don’t do that with ICE vehicles given the decades with of subsidies given to the oil and gas industry by government (ie taxpayers) to artificially depress the price of gas.

If EVs also get subsidized for car companies and customers, I’m ok with that.

False equivalent.

If you said give subsidies to electric power companies then that would be a logical comparison.

It's unrealistic to push a full transition to EV's. As recently as last week Jeep's CEO made the statement below. Mining execs agree.

Jeep's CEO doesn't think there are enough raw materials on earth to meet electric-car demand

(skip)

Even mining executives have expressed concern that demand for these materials continues to outstrip the current available supply.

What about a longer term phase in, say over 30-40 years? As technology improves, the needs for raw material might not be such an issue.

That would make more sense. I also think it's odd how they have skipped over hybrids before those have been widely adopted. Going straight to EV's is not realistic.

However, Europe as an example already has a deadline to switch to EV's by 2035. It's putting the cart before the horse. There are still a lot of issues to work out. One big one is they don't have a concrete plan at this time on how to recycle the batteries.

Electric vehicles have their place. Hybrid vehicles (with multiple options) are still a better choice than full electric, for a daily driver.

You might want to look up how subsidies work.

Nobody "gave" the oil companies anything other than a reduced tax rate.

Letting them keep more of their own money for R&D helps keep our gas prices lower than Europe etc.

Also, the oil they produce goes into a lot more than gasoline.... Including making EV's.

Again, let the market decide.

If the technology comes, demand will follow.

Right now, government and EV proponents are trying to make demand mandatory through mandates and wishing the technology into existence.
