A Texas man shot and killed a suspected thief on Wednesday after he used an Apple AirTag to track down his stolen truck, according to local police.
The San Antonio Police Department said it received a call reporting a stolen vehicle Wednesday around 1 p.m., before one of the men looking for the truck located the suspected thief and confronted him before authorities arrived, ultimately shooting and killing him, KSAT reported.
on a similar note...criminals around here are placing air tags on vehicles that might indicate the owner has $$, following them home, then doing a home invasion early in the am when they are groggy, getting showers etc....their success rate is 100% police say.
there is an ap you can get for non-i-junk called 'air guard' that scans for tags, but not just any tags, tags that keep popping up at your location

Too difficult. All they have to do is wait for everyone to leave the home and plunder undisturbed, at will.

in a better neighborhood, would not a vehicle sitting there be noticed? (most such neighborhoods prohibit street parking) and in an affluent neighborhood, in this era of cameras on anything, wouldnt you know without any doubt that if the owners are THERE, security is deactivated?
but that is neither her nor there, criminals are doing it and getting away with it.
You just can't do that. The shooter could be facing murder charges and be going away for life over a truck. If he does avoid prison he is going to be bankrupt defending himself.
I can't stand criminals because they often prey on innocent people but did the guy deserve to be shot dead for stealing the truck? Was the guy in the truck even the one that stole it?
It is sad to say this but if this guy was Black and not Brown would we see the Biden DOJ jumping on this and calling it a Hate crime?
This case is very similar to the one where the white guys chased down a black guy to question him about thievery in their neighborhood. The suspect went for the gun and he was shot. All involved are now in prison.
These guys should have blocked the truck in and not engaged the suspected criminal. That is the cops job.

Not a generic white work van. Slap a cheap magnetic "tradesman" sign on it and no one will think anything of it. Who's more likely to not DIY home repair? Rich people.
Security systems are easy to disable. There are various methods to do so. Remember, we're talking about thieves who are working hard enough at it to place a tracking device on a car.
