Of course Tennessee is only for small government when it comes to help the little guys. The state government will actively use the power of government for big corporations.

Absolutely awful what they are doing.

Eminent domain to force EV production. Disgusting!!!

Those lithium polluting batteries to mine them. Sick. They produce way more toxic waste than ICE vehicles neverminded recycling those giant batteries ouch!!

And forcing people to sell their land for this.

Pitiful

I hope it fails big time and court rules in land owners favor.

Sure, let them go to court. Won't matter because the court is on the side of the bureaucracy.

The lesson here is if Leviathan wants it, they'll take it. If they do compensate Jane and John Q American in the process of the taking, they'll be doing it purely for political theater and politicking, because they don't really have that as a requirement. Sure, the 5th Amendment makes mention of it, but they can legislate/adjudicate around anything if they so choose.

Kelo v New London. Nobody owns anything, we all rent it from Leviathan, and they can cancel our lease whenever and for whatever reason they please.

Toyota is more American than Ford. At least Toyota build their cars here in the US.

Some bizarre comments here.

Farmers are not being forced out. They do not want to keep the bits of land needed for the road, they just want more money for it. This has nothing to do with Ford. Ford is not building the road. ford does not pay for the land. Ford will not receive any property.

The plant is going in someplace. The farmers are pretty excited bout it going in there because they hope to sell their property for more money. If the plant were not built there, Tennessee loses, the farmers lose. It woudl make no difference to Ford (except for the timing issue - this plant is already under construction.) The plant cannot be moved to some other location work has already begun. The location was not a big secret. It was discussed in the community. Tennesse had to woo Ford to put it there rather than someplace else.

You don't feel that the little guys benefit from the Ford plant coming to small town, TN, or any industry for that matter. Ford could have located in a different state.

Exactly. I'm not sure why that is so hard for some to understand.
No one is being forces out. A handful of farmers are not satisfied with the offer made by the state for their property, which they are willing to sell.

Again, fair market value would be determined by each separate property. This particular property is worth what it is because of it's proximity to the highway that goes to Ford's plant, and because it's flat and not in a flood zone and is already set up for electricity, making it prime to develop. Not all land even in the same area will be worth the same.

How much is the City politicians promised to give to Ford to go there.

The term “woo” mean giving big incentives to the big corporations and have the little guy to pay for it.

The first thing we have to acknowledge is that modern American corporations are not good 'citizens'. They don't give one hot damn about Tennessee, or anyplace else.

They play the states off of one another to get the best deal possible. That means property tax breaks and all that mess. As soon as the deal expires, they might just move and leave an empty eyesore behind. They don't care.

Now they can't vote, companies aren't people, but they can and will pump all the money necessary into politicians to get what they want. Far more effective than voting anyway, that dark money is a real extension of power.

If they want the local people to pave a new road, the local people will pay for it. Then these same politicians who made that decision will take the political contributions their well heeled backers gave them, and turn that into propaganda to get the locals to vote for them again.

That's how it works.
