AI could replace 80% of jobs 'in next few years': expert (vehicle, cameras)

My job is part desk work and part field inspection of new buildings various systems such as HVAC, Lighting, Access controls.

I review the project drawings, specs, and equipment that is provided. That stuff could be automated somehow, but I can't see how the walking around a project and making observations and testing functionality of systems, not sure if that could be automated at this point.

I've got about 12 yr or so left to keep working, I just hope I can ride it out till retirement.

I can see a lot of jobs going away in the short coming years. I just don't know how our society is going to adapt to all of this coming at us. People need an income, a sense of purpose that work can provide. Pride in providing for yourself and your family.

People just throw out UBI, but I don't know if that is a real long-term solution. People need more than just an income like I just mentioned.

"Could" being the key word. Just because they "could", doesn't mean they will. We all know a robot can flip a burger. But when was the last time you purchased a burger flipped by a robot??? Most of the work I do can and has been replaced by robots, automation, etc. And still, I never seem to have enough hours during the day to complete all the work I have on my plate. The need to keep you afraid is why you are exposed to stories like this in the first place.

Two bars in Duluth, MN (also four other ones across my state) have had these automated fry cutters, cookers in use for about 4 or so years. The burgers one person puts patties on grill and puts an attached arm on each down on the top so it cooks both sides at once. It was interesting to watch as it all happened right behind the bar. One person ran it all. Place isn’t large, but had one bartender, one server, and one cook. Ran very efficiently.

Slowly but surely, jobs are being automated. All jobs will eventually be automated. But it will take a long time, beyond the lives of most if not all people alive today.

However, there are numerous jobs that will probably never become obsolete, due to the need for a level of adaptability and creativity that only humans can provide. Here is a list of seven that qualify.

Of course. AI will be able to make judgements faster and better than human police could do so. However, with increased technological progress in surveillance, policing will take a back seat since everyone will be kept track of. Every person's location will be known at all times and if the person commits a crime that would be known at once. Welcome to a Big Brother world where there is basically no crime.

All the jobs that you listed can and will be automated. Of course, social resistance has to be overcome. For example, I went to a store to buy some items yesterday and to my dismay, there was only an automated checkout. I hate them with a passion yet I had to use it. So too bad, so sad that I don't like those checkouts. They are here to stay despite what I and other people think.

So people will just have to get used to being taught and nursed by automated systems as they are developed. Saving money and being more competitive by businesses is far more important. And the change will be gradual so that people will find it easier to adapt.
