I understand that it is a tragedy that someone so young is dead. But they made their bed. And like it or not, we as a society need to uphold law and order for everyone's sake.
It is equally easy to say the kid should not have escalated the crime of theft to a gun fight. And simply given himself up and returned the vehicle when confronted.
“In May of 2021, Denver Police sent out an alert to help locate a 10-year-old boy named Elias Armstrong who ran away from home, and was last seen near 30th Avenue and North Downing Street. The boy was quickly located and the alert was canceled. Police verified early Wednesday it's the same boy.”
Obviously a very troubled youth. Who knows what he was into. I would like to know if the other delinquents were also that young or if they were older and put him up to it. If he was armed, I’m sure he was a willing participant, though.

The kid escalated it all the way along due to a horrible upbringing.
P.S. You do realize that not everyone is rich and that if they lose their car it may not be insured and they could lose their job etc. and be staring at homelessness. A lot of people that are not in nor have ever been around much poverty just don't get that.

Anyone who excuses or justifies this criminal act has a few screws loose.
The car was stolen. The 12 year old had a loaded gun. The cops refused to pursue, citing "liability". I would argue that this waste of skin was the liability, and the threat was neutralized. It's little wonder that this country is going full on vigilante.

You mean like stealing cars? Agreed, don't steal cars, don't steal guns. Don't use said guns while stealing cars.
