You are telling me nothing I did not know in 1964. My state was one party. There were 2 kinds of democrats. Conservative and progressive. All that happened was the conservative branch switched to Republican.
But the game has always been centered around primary elections. We do not register by party. We declare when we show up to vote in a primary every 2 years.
The Ds had contested primaries. Until recently the Rs did not. The conservatives always voted for the candidate that would most easily be defeated by the R. Things are changing now that the R have contested primaries.
It's been that way my entire life. I am a really old woman.
Reminding us of our past tells us nothing. Any southerner who ever gave it a thought knows the KKK was an arm of the Chamber of Commerce.

Even in Atlanta, Black leaders have concluded that the Liberal policies are crushing their communities.
Hats off to this Black female politician (Mesha Mainor) for flipping from the Demcrat party to the Republican party today...like Vernon Jones did before her...also in Atlanta.
The Liberals siding w/ teachers unions over students, has led to failed schools in Black communities.
Defunding police has decimated Black communities too...crime, drugs, food & perscription drug deserts abound.
And when Dems leave, Liberals attack them like packs of rabid Dogs drooling White foam form their mouths.
If the DNC continues to lose Blacks, Dems will be hard pressed to win national elections.
I commend Representative Mesha Mainor for doing what is right for her constituancy...& Vernon Jones too.

You apparently are completely unaware that it was a Republican, NIXON who desegregated the south's schools in 1970, 16 years AFTER Brown v. Board of Ed. Neither Democrat JFK nor Democrat LBJ would lift a finger to do it. They wanted to keep schools segregated.

Maybe they were tired of being ignored year after year, except just before elections.
Or maybe they got tired of hearing Democrats say year after year that whitey was out to get them, white supremacy, they really needed to elect Democrats to cure all these problems, and so they did. And then four years later, they heard from the Dems that things were even worse, white supremacy was growing even greater, whitey was even more out to get them. And they started wondering why, the more Democrats they voted for, the worse the racism got. And they started putting two and two together.
Now the Democrats are starting to find out that, they more they lied to black people, the more black people started realizing just who the problem was.
Stacey Abrams landed a particularly cruel blow when she caused the MLB All-Star game to move from Black business-dense Atlanta to lily-white Denver. She screwed a LOT of Black businesses and their employees who were counting on that extra income from the All-Star Game festivities.
Mainor said that she has "been met with much encouragement" amid her decision to switch parties and noted that it's "humbling to be embraced – for the first time in a long time – by individuals who don’t find fault in a black woman having a mind of her own and be willing to buck the party line."
Asked whether she believes she will face pushback from Democrats over her decision, Mainor said, "The most dangerous thing to the Democrat Party is a black person with a mind of their own. So, it wouldn’t surprise me."

Mainor justified her position by noting that some schools in her district have 3% reading proficiency rates and that many kids cannot do simple math.
She's right.
Supporting Dems have done nothing for black folk - and now she will be with people who are OK with her being who she is.
Hopefully these Black people will AT LEAST thank the Republicans for getting rid of affirmative action so there will be less Black students in top notch schools. Black people now know they just need to suck it up and do better... and then all will be well. Just like the Republicans say it will.
