Is your entertainment and excitement in the present and future truly that important? Just go back to archives for that and find things to entertain you that don’t require movies and sports and contributing to the ever growing problem of this BS. . Imagine the money we would save if as a country we quit throwing money at this superficial nonsense? Who is watching most of this crap on TV anyways? Yet all these clowns are millionaires many times over

That will put a big ass dent into the deficit. Hell I haven't seen a truly GREAT movie in YEARS!!! Decades

Entertainment is one of the factors that make life worth living. A boring life is not a good life.

Joining NATO is not what makes life worth living, nor is giving your life to join it worth it, which is what is happening.

Didja know that the government doesn't pay entertainer's salaries?
How would "Defunding Entertainers and Athletes" effect the deficit?

If the op hasn’t seen a good movie in decades you don’t get out much. Yes tons of crap both on tv and at the movies mixed in but there’s been great movies made in the last twenty years. The entertainment arts are important, besides reflecting society, food for thought, laughter and escape from the everyday. Much can be said for sports. The huge money is a reflection of capitalism and demand.

I agree. Ban all sports would be the best thing to ever happen.

Don't agree with you much at all, but you are on target here.

I would say don't spend your money there until they stop promoting gun violence in TV & movies. We need to stop focus on the 2ndA and start with promoting responsible gun use in the entertainment industry. Because right now - guns are simply a means to solve a problem.

That hasn't worked so well in the past.

King Edward II banned soccer in 1314 because young men were getting hurt and not joining the military.

Soccer is today the world's most popular sport.

Nine pin bowling was once outlawed because it lent itself to gambling. People added a pin to get around the letter of the law and ten pin bowling is now the standard version of the game.

How would the country save money if there were no entertainment?

You're aware, aren't you, that the millions of people working in the sports and entertainment industries are not paid by the US government? And that they pay taxes to the federal, state, and local governments? And you're aware that the corporations that employ these people also pay taxes?

That's your problem.

Glad that didn't last; I earned a lot of free beer by wagering on a teammate's shot or final score.

Quite the totalitarian, eh? What else (that you don't like) would you like banned?

Looking at some of the replies, sounds like a bunch of a junkies looking for their next fix. I can get a lifetimes worth of entertainment from past games, movies, TV shows. I dont need to contibute to overpaid celebrities going forward, when I can get the same enjoyment re-watching and re-playing old stuff. Since that stuff is better anyways. Thats lost income from those pointless venture going to the deficit to get us out of debt. Money filtering to something else besides contemporary and future entertainment. You can easily be entertained by old stuff
