Already the media is trying to foment criticism of the police officer - of course, since the officer was white and the thief was black. An article today stated the woman caused the car to "bump" into the officer.
This is a direct result of the Summer of George Floyd. BLM and every single Democrat made too many black people hate law enforcement and think that they can simply say f**k off to them.
I wonder if some AA mistaking believe they no longer must obey a police officer esp. if they feel they did nothing wrong. The woman was told repeatedly to get out of the car. Why didn't she?
And granted it was poor judgement on the officer’s part to step in front of the vehicle but why did the woman hit the gas?
This shooting was appalling and totally unnecessary. Killing someone for trying to LEAVE the scene of an ALLEGED misdemeanor theft is so beyond reasonable only those who love cops — or hate Black people — will find it justified. These people will never find the history of police brutality against Black people credible and thus, never understand why many of us distrust and fear interactions with police.
The trigger-happy cop had options: move from in front of the car, let her go and follow her, take the plate number and report it in. She was not accused of murder, after all, just stealing some liquor.
I hope that cop loses his job and never gets near another firearm again. I hope he does serious time. I hope her family gets a seven-figure (at least) settlement. And I hope that trigger-happy cops everywhere are scared the same thing will happen to them. I thought that might happen after George Floyd’s murder. Evidently Ohio cops didn’t get the word.
And no, I’ve never been a “de-fund the police” type. But I always condemn bad cops s who make stupid and often biased decisions that end up with someone dead.
I have always had a problem with cops who unnecessarily stand in front of cars and shoot when that car moves. I don’t think he was justified and I think he should face justice for this. That being said, listen to the damn cops when they tell you to do something, if they are wrong it will eventually go in your favor, but don’t tell them to f**k off, which is essentially what she did.
Why do black people always seem to get confrontational with police ? Do what the police tell you and that's the end of it. Duh! Is that so hard to understand????
She was a thief, got caught and shouldn't have acted in such a stupid way by trying to drive off.
Ignores officer warnings to get out of car, and tries to run one over leading to her getting shot. And somehow the police are the bad guys here. Makes perfect sense.
No doubt taxpayers will be left to foot the bill. And the lawyer is a piece of work. Claims that since the deceased left bottles of liquor in the store before leaving, no theft took place.
and it was just heartbreaking for them to see Ta’Kiya having her life taken away under such ridiculous circumstances.”
Yes, the circumstances were ridiculous.
Had she not shoplifted
Had she not refused to stop
Had she not attempted to run over a cop
She would still probably be alive today. Why is it that just about every time there is an officer shooting, it seems to involve a suspect attempting to flee?
By the way, if this pregnant woman was so caring and concerned about her baby, why was she trying to steal bottles of liquor?

Not sure about that. Nevertheless, the woman should have gotten out of her car after repeatedly being told.
My guess is she might have had outstanding warrants because if she didn’t steal anything her actions make no sense.
Quote:
In his interview with the AP on Friday, Walton (lawyer) denied that Young had stolen anything from the grocery store. He said his firm found a witness who saw Young put down bottles of alcohol as she left the store.
“The bottles were left in the store," he said. "So when she’s in her car denying that, that’s accurate. She did not commit any theft, and so these officers were not even within their right to place her under arrest, let alone take her life.”
Brian Steel, executive vice president of the union representing Blendon Township police, criticized Walton’s characterization of the shooting as murder before all the facts are in. He said an investigation will determine whether the shooting was justified. “The fact is, (the officer) had to make a split-second decision while in front of a moving vehicle, a 2,000-pound weapon,” he said.
But Edward Obayashi, a national use-of-force expert and attorney who specializes in vehicle-related police shootings, said that while the officer who shot Young may have reasonably feared for his safety, it went against all his law enforcement training to be in front of her car in the first place. https://www.yahoo.com/news/video-pol...050840627.html
I firmly stand by these officers.
Questioning an alleged perp to determine charges or not is part of the job tasks.
Whether she had items or not. I ' step out' and converse with officers would have been the right thing to do.
One of the few times I find it was the alleged person's duty to turn off the engine. Step out and clear the air.
Her attitude was defiant and questionable.
I have compassion for any family's loss. I do not have an ounce of regard for how this young lady handled the encounter.

Which completely amplified the situation. Again, the officer used poor judgement getting in front of the vehicle, but it was the woman’s refusal to get out of the car that caused the rapid escalation.
