As a Libertarian I am quite astute as to the failings of the USA in regards to foreign policy and domestic spying. The dark side is a rather subjective statement. Aligning with Russia, China and Iran. That is truly the dark side.
BRICS is more about waning dependency off the West and the petrodollar than any military alliance.
It's bad for us, but the sensible thing for India to do. India has strong memories of being a colony, and does not want to repeat that.
But both India and China can cause major changes in the world order, or problems or just largely change the course of world geopolitics before they eventually get consumed in their own aging population or the other multitude of problems they’ll have. It’s the time before that these large countries WILL make a difference.
Trudeau and this stupid escalation with India could alienate it from the west and move it closer to Russia. US needs India in some capacity for China’s aggression.
Modi should just throw Trudeau a bone and give him the lone wolf who did this (whether true or not) for appearances’ sake. North America, the UK & EU are still much friendlier and overall more stable partners to have than China & Russia, even if he favors the dictatorial tendencies of the latter.

Yet, the US has dropped more bombs on other countries than the rest of the world combined. But yes, they are the dark side and we are the light side.
India is moving over to the dark side aligning with China, Russia, N Korea and Iran. Not a good development.
India has historical ties being close to Soviet Union and Russia, and some to Iran as well.
If India stood with Ukraine, I doubt Trudeau would on this path of accusing the Indian government led by Modi over a dead Sikh separatist. And Modi imposing a visa ban on Canadians seems a harsh overreaction and escalation to a cold war between the countries.
How are Canadian companies that work with Indian companies, or multinational companies, going to handle employee travel of Canadians having to go to and from India?
Maybe Trump or Haley could try to ease tensions, with Haley having Sikh ancestry and closer insight, and she is into geopolitics or adding more to her resume. I have doubts if Biden is in mental capacity or if US Establishment would care.
It's interesting that Modi didn't go far to stop Air India and Air Canada nonstop flights to/from India- Canada, but just wants to punish Canadian citizens, some of Indian descent, who don't have an OCI from being able to visit India. So, someone like a second-generation Canadian Indian who needs a new India visa to visit, and was planning to see the Golden Temple in Amritsar, or go for a cousin's wedding, can't go.
At a certain point this escalation is not about Khalistan, a dead movement anyways, and the Sikh separatist leader, but just Modi trying to show to the West, he is a big man.
