I don't know. Maybe they have nobody at all, but the slavish blind devotion to Trump holds so he's the only possible choice. But surely there are better spoken, accomplished Republicans out there besides those on stage for the debates. The GOP obviously wants nobody but Trump and they're making sure things stay that way.
I've heard there are better Republicans out there, ones who have an interest in public service.
Sadly, as BeerGeek pointed, Republicans prefer Trump.

The GOP's voters want Trump, and that shows in his 60% number in the polls - more than everyone else combined. If Trump isn't nominated, the GOP won't get enough voters to win, it's that simple. Unlike in the democrat party - the people still have a say-so here.
