When Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called illegitimacy in the black community a national crisis in 1966, the percent of total single mothers was 17%, 31% for single black mothers.
Today it is 25% for all single mothers and some 60% for single black mothers. This, despite an explosion of the abortion rate.
Yes, it is a crisis. Fatherless children have far worse lives and create far more societal problems -- poverty, violent crimes, suicide, child abuse Not their fault. They never had a chance.
There are CVS/Walgreens everywhere and most gas stations sell condoms.
CVS and Walgreens don't have cheap birth control and require a prescription, which means visiting a doctor. In Texas, the GOP morons closed a bunch of low cost clinics but never replaced them.

Getting pregnant out of wedlock is a choice, unless rape is involved...no?
Yes and no.
If you are intelligent, responsible, and educated -- then yes, pregnancy is usually a choice. Not ALWAYS.
I got read the riot act by a Mom who had not one, but TWO condoms break, resulting in children. She always planned to have chldren with her husband (they were married) but she wanted to wait a few years and further her career. Maybe condoms were not the best choice, as they have a significant failure rate. Point is, here 2 children born in wedlock, were both accidents. Neither was a choice, as the wife was using birth control properly. They just failed.
Peole who are dumb and having sex for fun, aren't necessarily making a "choice" for pregnancy.
A poor woman who is under the protection of an alpha male in the hood who is demanding sex from her, is seeking protection from others, not necessarily choosing pregnancy.
A poorly educated woman who was never taught birth control methods, is not necessarily choosing pregnancy. I mean, there is all kinds of misinformation out there. How many young girls think you can't get pregnant your first time with sex? Or can't get pregnant during her period?
I get your point, but I would not say it is always a choice. All too often, there are extenuating circumstance beyond just "I am trying to make a baby with you here." Life is way more complex than that.
But it didn't happen did it? That's because federal grants for the poor are not directed to the poor in a large number of states, the money is very cleverly diverted to programs that do nothing to assist the poor: https://www.cbpp.org/research/income...nf-block-grant
