Why did many media outlets report on this unverified claim?
Israeli leadership confirmed the story, which is why the MSM is talking about. Could it be propaganda to rally the troops? Who knows, but the attack was bad enough even if that particular part was not accurate. You have to take their word for it rather than accuse them of making stuff up. Personally I would not be surprised if Hamas did it considering all the other things they did.

Egyptian officials stand by their claim that they gave multiple warnings to Israel of an impending Hamas attack.
Israel denies they were warned.
If they did, it might have come through a questionable source.

They fired some anti-tank missiles, but there is no coordinated attack. Could have been some individuals acting on their own. There also blared the sirens in Haifa.

I don't think Hezbollah attacks from the north are sustained. But this could be an issue: They start sustained attacks once the IDF goes into Gaza and get preoccupied in Gaza.
Lots of reports saying Lebanon's economic situation doesn't make it easy for any attacks on Israel. Iran is not in a good position either but the fear would be the IDF goes massive in Gaza and Iran and other countries enter the fight.

I think more of an issue for Hezbollah than Israel. If Israel decides to go beyond the answering of a few rockets and shells that has been going on for decades I think any General staff would much prefer to send their called up reserves of armored forces sweeping through southern Lebanon then to send infantry into the rubble of a city.
Population of Jordan is 11 million, and they have accepted 3.2 million Palestinians, so its hard to argue they haven't accepted any, but whatever makes you happy. I don't see how they could possibly accept more. Most Palestinians live outside of what is considered 'Palestine'. Out of 12.7 Palestinians in the world only 2 million live in Gaza.
They allow 3.2 Palestinian refugees live there.
Yes, 3.2 Palestinians live in Jordan. But it is not as if they fully accepted 3.2 million Palestinians into their fold. Their history is more complicated.
When the west Bank was taken by Jordan from Israel in 1948 they allowed the Palestinians living there to have Jordanian passports and citizenship. But when they lost that territory in 1967 and 750K Palestinians from there fled to Jordan, they allowed them to retain their Jordanian citizenship. Their children and subsequent generations have Jordanian citizenship.
But the same citizenship was not given to Palestinian refugees from Gaza, and recently, Syria. They consider the Gazan Palestinians as of Egyptian origin and thus not qualifying for Jordanian citizenship. They get plastic cards that states they are Palestinian Gazan foreigners. Their children, and grandchildren born in Jordan suffer the same fate. They can never become Jordanians. They depend on UN refugee organization for help - see article 1.
These 2M refugees are forever second class citizens. As long as they don't create problems, take money or jobs from real Jordanians, they can live there. But if you break those rules, you will be kicked out.
Jordan depends on tourism to places like Petra and Wadi Rum. That requires stability. They cannot afford to have Hamas Palestinians starting a war from their territory. There is no way that the Jordanian ruler will accept any Gazan refugee willingly, even as a second class non citizen. As the second article shows, he does not want Jordan to be declared as Palestine state and have parts of West Bank incorporated into it. But who knows what might happen.
