The adults in the House took one for the team to end the debacle. But the schism is just papered over and it will return. There is no way the Freedom Caucus is going to co-exist with the moderates for long. The only deeply held sentiment they share is fear of Trump. If McCarthy and his baskets of fat-cat donor money couldn't do, some amateur from Louisiana is not going to do it waving his Bible at them either.

I figured it would be a more MAGA-leaning candidate at the least for speaker. No surprises at all. If this get the House back to work that's the more important thing.

More affirmation that the Republicans chose the right guy:

If the O'Biden clan hates him, then I love Speaker Johnson even more.

Johnson being a Trump pick gets under the Libs skin too...which delights me to no end.

That much is true, we will see where this leads. He made a good speech today, now comes the hard work.

Big time he is facing a massive Hurdle - he has some “must pass “ Legislation to pass, he has to get up to speed with Fund Raising (a major plus for McCarthy & Emmer), he has to deal with McConnell, Schumer, Jefferies and Biden (all basically on the same page) and he has to quickly assemble a staff he has 13 now, McCarthy had 3 times that. He has to avoid a Shut Down.

They were Dancing in the Halls yesterday, convinced of Speaker Emmer — which helped destroy his chances.
Hope they can find a nice Safe Space to get some peace.

One would have to be politically naive to think that today's vote was anything more than exhaustion and desperation. The rancor, the division remain just temporarily papered over. I'll give them until they have to pass the budget (what is that 3 weeks?) for it all to unravel once again.

Yep, he's a good speaker. We've had good orators before in positions of power.

Talk is one thing. It's the actions that are important.

His first priority should be to "stand" with THIS country and it's people. Everything else is secondary.

Welp, looks like the news media puppets of the left are dirt-mining, and twisting as we speak.... why am I not surprised?

True.
Voting as a body now seems to be - to the liberals - some sort of evil, desperate move.

I'd never heard of Johnson from Louisiana until he was elected Speaker today, but he seems to be level-headed, and non-radical. I like the choice.

I still think Gaetz, Mace, and their ilk should be run out of Congress - along with Tlaib, Omar, and Corey Bush (and maybe a few more). The country should not tolerate radicals on either side.
