White House budget director Shalanda Young condemned the looming government shutdown during the daily press briefing at the White House. She specifically warned that legislation from Republicans "includes devastating 30% cuts, you heard me, 30% cuts," detailing that "it would eliminate 12,000 FBI agents, almost 1,000 ATF agents, and more than 500 local law enforcement."

When you figure out how to do that, we can get rid of the federal EPA.

I think it's pretty obvious which one needs to be cut and where the cut will make any difference. You could close the ATF down and it wouldn't make any difference budget-wise!

The enumerated powers of the federal government do not include regulating cow farts, but do include providing for the common defense of the United States.

However, I can see the need for ATF working with the border patrol to keep weapons and drugs out. But the ATF as a national police force? Not so much.

But the EPA is mostly not concerned with that. The EPA go into the middle of a state and regulate activities which do not affect neighboring farms or cities, or even next door neighbors in a residential neighborhood, much less a neighboring state.

<shrug> If we're looking for founder's intent, it may be worth remembering that Washington personally led an army in the field to once and for all settle the question of whether the federal government could put a tax on alcohol.

You should try explaining this to the left and environmentalist. Since this same statement works for the entire World. And all a ton of job destroying EPA regulations have done is help push manufacturing(and great jobs) overseas to China where they do far more damage to the World Wide Environment than factories over here would ever create. We just don't see it so , out of sight out of mind.....

We should get rid of all government agencies and go back to the 19th century. Things were much better then.

Drinking water has definitely deteriorated, pollutant have increased in lakes and rivers so yes we need a stronger EPA. Manufacturing went overseas mainly due to cheap labor but I'm sure some like the unregulated climate in some countries where they can destroy the environment.

Republicans did not cut EPA by 40%, they did lose a few percent of the workforce under Trump due to his anti-science campaign but they left on their own.

Bad enough they want to destroy the EPA but some want to cut the ATF in a country with 350 million guns, doesn't make any sense.

There are many leftists that prefer global solutions to global problems, and I don't think that's a secret.

Thanks for the info-why TF does ATF need 5000 employees? That's a lot to process paperwork and harass honest businesses. Better yet would be to do away with them-they are tax collectors, we have enough of those in the IRS.
