Staying in jail 180 days (or more) in an American jail, 3 hots and a cot, might be MUCH more accommodating than where they are used to living. Many MORE illegal aliens might start coming into Texas, just to become eligible for the free room and board, and protection from whatever criminals some of them might be running away from.
Gov. Abbott, maybe you need to add 8 hr/day hard labor? Make the jail a place they do NOT want to go.
Texas will lose bigly on this. When SCOTUS overturned nearly all of AZ 1070, they said that border enforcement is the responsibility of the Feds, and States need to stay out of it.
State officials cannot deport anyone, nor arrest anyone for returning to the US. There are people who get deported, then return after getting their status normalized.
This is a very different SCOTUS. Liberals had a 5-4 majority then. Now its 6-3 for the conservatives. And as was shown with Roe v Wade they don't have a problem overturning previous decisions.

That ruling was wrong, and it will be overturned when it is revisited.
Wrong. Once ANYONE crosses into the United States they are subject to the laws of each state. The feds have no jurisdiction over state issues.
In general, that's true. However, States are not allowed to make determination son whether someone is in the country illegally. That determination is made solely by the Federal Government. Immigration status is not something the state controls.
Where does the Constitution say that immigration is not a Federal role? The Federal Government controls naturalization, trade with other countries, and interstate commerce. And the Supremacy Clause plays a part.
