This is why our allies are praying Trump lose the elections. He suggested abandoning NATO on multiple occasions, and then there is the comment below AND yesterday said that he'd honor the commitment conditionally based on how Europeans treat us (meaning teat HIM). Who can trust this guy?

Trump told European leaders that US ‘will never come to help you’

Then president told European commissioners in 2020 that ‘Nato is dead’ and the US would never defend Europe if it were attacked

Multiple news outlets said the exchange between Trump and Ursula von der Leyen at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2020 was described in Brussels on Tuesday by Thierry Breton, a French European commissioner responsible for the internal market, with responsibilities including defence.

“You need to understand that if Europe is under attack we will never come to help you and to support you,” Trump said, according to Breton, who was speaking at the European parliament.

That is my President. Going back to pre-covid for material? Trump was right, and NATO members started to pay their memberships. Trump was also right about Russia and Germany, while they laughed at him, and he had the last laugh as that video is embarrassing for Germany to watch.

Why should America be Europes watch-dog and fight their wars? Why is the US one the couple countries who are paying their share, while the Europeans bullied around Obama and now Biden all these years?

The Soviet Union is long gone. Russia is a **** ant little nation that cant even defeat Ukraine. Without their nukes they are nothing. Time for the Europeans to take care of themselves. See how well their often vaunted(by the left)social welfare systems continue when they have to actually(god forbid)pay for their own defense and not the American Taxpayer. NATO began as a Shield against Warsaw Pact Aggression. Today Nato is the Sword we use to threaten others.

He said it again yesterday, so you better believe it.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

Not a 'leftist'. NATO agreed to increase their spending in 2014, or 6 years before Trump was told NATO even existed. They were on target, and now with Ukraine war, they have speeded it up even more.

why should we ""help"" anyother nation..... what do we get in return

look at Ukraine, they have gone back...reneged...on every deal since 1990 when the iron curtain fell

What's so confusing about the context? He was asked about his comment "never help Europe if it came under attack", and he said his commitment would depend on how the Europeans treat us (meaning how they they treat him).

Our allies ARE concerned about the possibility of him becoming president, because it seems clear Trump has no intent of honoring any treaties.

The same reason they would help us, and DID help us, - because we have a military treaty with them. You have to ask?

In other words, he didnt saw the US will never come to help them. The parentheses part of your post is irrelevant as its what you think, not what was actually said.
