I'm split about this, The 'War On Terror" has been unpopular here, So I'm certainly glad , That our troops are coming home, Though I also feel, That we could have been of more use, Given more time?
Only the SASR (Special Air Service Regiment) Saw any real action....We had regular infantry soldiers, Complaining About their small role.
Australia was a good friend and a loyal ally to the US, I'm surprised they stayed in as long as they did. Unfortunately when one military leaves, the US has to send troops in to close the gap.
Iraq was a unthought out action at least the post war occupation.I can't blame any country for leaving.

I disagree. There were plenty of actions in World War II (e.g., Crete, Dieppe) in which our allies made strategic missteps. But we didn't bail on them. We supported them. To do otherwise would have betrayed the definition of what "ally" really means.
Disagreeing with a friend, trying to convince him of your point of view, doing these things in private conferences, is one thing. Washing your hands of a situation because you find it politically expedient to do so is quite another.
I love that whole "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality. It's so...I don't know....eighth grade.
