When you make a claim, YOU have to back it up.

But. It seems to me that competence varies so much from one place to another. They could do with some serious management and competency in hiring.

In my last location USPS was very competent and reliable, except with regard to forwarding mail to my new address ( they no longer seem to understand that concept ).

In my new location USPS is not at all competent or reliable. Anything that won't fit in my small mail box gets returned to sender ( or lost ) ( or put in the wrong box ). So I do my darndest not to have anything shipped USPS. Amazon deliveries here are near perfect. UPS and Fedex are not bad. But USPS just doesn't work here.
" but sure would be nice if they were competent."

Provide where you think they are NOT, to back up your claim.

I have no problem with my local Post Office.

"If it's so bad, why doesn't the GOP propose reforms?"

Maybe because it is NOT as bad as claimed.

"If it ain't broke, DON'T fix it", as they say.

And you DO know they only control the House, right?

You have the Senate and the presidency, so why don't THEY fix it?

Solution: Reduce mail delivery to every other day. You could lay off 1/2 of all mail carriers. Divide each postal district in two. Half get their mail on Mon-Wed-Fri. The other half Tue-Thur-Sat.

But I kind of like the USPS losing money. It is proof that Socialism doesn't work that can be used against liberals.
I had been predicating a future odd even type delivery scheme for the 25 years I had been delivering mail. However laying off means congress would throw 200,000 into the unemployment rolls and on their watch. Which would make them more susceptible to being voted out of office for that increased rate and the union foot workers on their campaigns going to the other guy.

"Dejoy slowed down USPS mail significantly"

NOT where I live.

You make a claim, it is up to YOU, to back it up.

Its been floating around since the last general election during the COVID slowdowns. Basically PMG DeJoy came into office and everything already in place under Postmaster General Megan Brennan was still going forward and folks acted as if that could just be stopped because mail in ballots had become a political issue. So machines which could process many more letters than they were getting were shut down on schedule and the processing consolidated at a central location with the less staff needed.

Meanwhile in about his first meeting PMG DeJoy did tell his area managers that his intent was not to rely on overtime to cover basic operations and thus one area started sending staff home at the 8 hour day mark while the rest of the nation's postal workers were going 12 hour tours with days off canceled.

Remember "if you feel sick" stay home or if you had a vulnerability. Before COVID people expected workers to show up, my base example is honor Michael Jordan for the playoff game with "flu like symptoms" suddenly more folks were out and plants used to maximizing existing space could not be socially distanced came concurrently with people ordering for delivery which ended up with the dead baby chicks and perscriptions being put on hold to clean up the backlog of parcels from days before.

Don't worry. Nobody is changing USPS. They will lose money each year and get bailed out each year.
It's been that way for nearly 15 years now.
