I think part of it is that when he is tied up in court all day, he has less opportunity to speak. That’s a big help to his campaign.

But it’s not just that. People do see this as a corrupt government, trying to jail a political opponent just so he cant run for president. The more they keep doing that, the bigger his protest vote gets.
